Zolita - Resolved, Portugal

Sadly, Zolita did not take to being confined and liked to destroy very secure fencing very very quickly....So we have returned her as a "spay and release" to where she came from, the neighbours will care for her and she has a food and water source and some friends. When we brought her back it was very very sweet, as there was a cat meowing that came running....and it was kisses between dog and cat! So with a little watching over her we think Zolita will live a happy enough life where she was found. But if anyone is interested in offering Zolita (and her cat friend?) a home we will definitely help so please contact us for more info. Born May 2008. Female. Zolita is extrmely sweet natured. Mother to the Z puppies, she sits, knows how to give paw, is loving, calm and gentle. She definitely has had a family before and was either lost or abandoned. She is now neutered and is negative leish and heartworm.

Tux - Deceased

Energetic crazy little Tux injured himself badly whilst playing as always, full steam ahead..Running, playing, jumping, everything he did was always typical Tux...overly enthusiastic and very energetic. He fractured his femur in a terrible way, whilst playing rough, crashing into a wall..Sadly it needed a complicated operation with a steel plate and it could neither be afforded nor was the prognoisis very good. So he was very sadly put to sleep a few hours after the accident and at the vet. He will never be forgotten by many. A tree will be planted on our Memory Lane, remembering him, and all the others we sadly had to say goodbye to.. He was 1.5 years old. When Tux was found he was absolute skin and bone and was living by some rubbish bins before following a volunteer home in the hopes of some kindness. While with us he was very happy, and even had a lovely outing to beach one day with a volunteer. RIP Tux.

Radha - Rehomed Portugal

Born appriox April 4, 2012. Very lucky little girl kitten. She and her sister Rachana were found by us in a supermarker parking lot. Extremely friendly we believe they had just been abandoned. A friend was with us and she has decided to offer Radha and Rachana a home together. Good luck lucky girls.

Snow White - Rehomed Portugal

rn Janary 1, 2011. Snow-white is an extremely sweet natured, calm and stable female, tested negative or feline aids and leukemia. She was a super mummy to 6 kittens. Now spayed and putting on some much needed weight. Snow white must have had a family before, as she loves people and is good and happy with everything. Not remotely nervous, extremely gentle and loving. A wonderful cat.

Romara - Rehomed Karin, Holland

Born March 2011. Female. A very distressing story. Romara was found in a box and tied to the side of the road. She was found by a passerby who immediately took her to the vet. He later found out that she was there for one week before he foudn her. Romara's hind leg was awful, infected so badly that the paw no longer existed, the bones were broken and disintegrated from her knee and hip. Even with this excruciating pain we cannot share how absolutely wonderful, sweet, gentle and loving she was. Her leg was amputated two days after being brought to the vet and even just the day after she is so much happier ...and no wonder. The family who found Romara are sponsoring her vetting. And so a big thank you to them and also a tremendous relief to know that a such a sad animal has received the help she so urgently needed. Neg. lm and hw.

Berlingo - Rehomed Karin, Holland

On a very busy Tuesday, a friend brought us Berlingo as an emergency. Found at the canil with a lump on the top of his head the size of a tennis ball, he was being badly attacked by other dogs. With no where safe for Berlingo to stay we of course said yes. Berlingo is male, born Aug. 15, 2011. Only 8 months he is very friendly albeit a little lost and not quite knowing what to do with himself being in the centre of loving attention. Mix Husky. Negative leish and heartworm, soon to be neutered, the lump is growing smaller, he is also suffering from terrible bleach burns on his feet.

Vito - Rehomed Kim, Berlin

Found Thursday March 29 in Almancil, running in front of cars and across a busy road, not knowing where to go and what to do. We saw him again in the evening, lost and were able to help him. Currently at the vet clinic, is very sweet and well behaved, well fed, and loves people. Is approx 8 years old..adorable little guy...He maybe has ran away, we hope not abandoned, as he is in relatively good condition. If available for adoption there also may be someone interested in his adoption.

Anda is a girl. On 29 March, at 6 weeks, weighed 2.3 kilos. Greyish like peper and salt, with white legs and white pointy tail. The 6 puppies were born on 15-2-2012. Ayko is a boy. On 29 March, at 6 weeks, weighed 1,90 kilo. Greyish with some brindle (stripey) and four white legs, and white point on tail. The 6 puppies were born on 15-2-2012. Born 22 Feb. 2012. Female. Very sweet natured. Mummy is snowhite, the kittens have been with mother since birth, very healthy and well handled. Mother tested negative feline leukemia and feline aids. Available for adoption 11th April at 7 weeks.

Lucky III - Rehomed, Portugal

Luckky has found a lovely home here in Portugal with a new mummy and a mix-chiwawa. Born March 2009. Female. Lucky weighs 3.5 kilos, needs to put on weight, and at most will weigh 5 kilos. She was found by a man after hearing a scream and yelp, and poor Lucky had been hit by a car. Her hip was x-rayed and had been dislocated. It was reset by the vet and was bandaged until the muscles healed, but has made a complete recovery. She is tiny and we are amazed she survived. She is extremely sweet natured and loving. Walks on and off lead everywhere and adores her people. She is neutered, negative leish and heartworm and fully vetted.

Nino - Rehomed, Portugal

Born March 2010. 3.5 kilos. Nino comes from a local gypsy camp where we have been providing help with sterilization. He was hit by a car, and could no longer walk, and they asked for help to get him better and to find him a home. He has improved tremendously. At first he could not walk properly, and was dragging his legs behind him. He was given anti- inflammatory and other medication, proper dogfood, daily controlled walks/excercize. The difference is incredible, he can walk and run, he still sometimes shakes/trembles with his head...we feel that it will all get better with time, proper food, and love... He is already so much better, never falls over anymore, runs and plays and is such a happy little guy. When he runs, he stretches his front legs in front of him, like a lippizaner horse does. He is extremely lovely natured and we do think he will make a full recovery. He is vetted and tested negative for leish and heartworm and will soon be neutered.

Jason - Rehomed, Portugal

Born Jan. 24, 2012. Male. At just over 3 months of age weighs 5 kilos so expected to be a medium size adult. Very friendly and affectionate. The puppies are currently with their mother, a lovely medium sized female, who will be neutered and returned. There is interest to reserve Jason for Holland, but as travel may take some time he remains available for adoption in Portugal

Lulu - Rehomed Michaela, Berlin

Born Jan 1, 2012. Female. Lulu is extremely sweet natured and so happy to have found safety, warmth and company. She was seen abandoned at a petrol station and it is believed she was left behind by the gyspies. She was very scared, starving and growling. Living in a cardboard box a volunteer with another organization did not give up and managed to catch her. In need of a more permanen foster solution she is staying with us until a home can be found. She is extremely malnourished and is receiving treatment for a skin condition (SARNA) but nothing that love and care will not make better.

Two - Rehomed, Portugal

Now called Tooey. Born 2008. Male. 6,5 kilo, but a little skinny. Came to us from a local canil, is very friendly and affectionate. Coat was completely matted and so he has been shaved. Negative leish and heartworm, now neuetered. Probably a poodle mix. Two has found a very lovely family who have come to visit him and will adopt him as soon as they are back from a short travel abroad.

Santo - Rehomed, Portugal

Born February 1, 2011. Male. He is a very stable male, very sweet and affectionate. He was abandoned outside the vets office before coming into our care. Santo is just under one year old. He is a mix rafeiro alentejo, although only weighs 30 kilos so while still a large dog somewhat smaller for the breed. He is very stable, very sweet and affectionate and will make a lovely companion dog. He is now neutered, lm and hw negative, fully vaccinated.

Ronda - Rehomed, Portugal

Born 2008. Female, 40 kilos. Very affectionate and loving. A wonderful family dog. She is excellent in the house, super with children. Extremely gentle natured, calm, affectionate she makes a super companion. Now neutered, negative leish and heartworm. When she arrived into us from a local canil she was pregnant (she was aborted) and she had an ulcer in her eye which is now 90% healed, does not cause any problems with vision and needs no further treatment.

8 month old female, found on the beach of Carvoeiro, 18.8 kg, but underweight. Mix border collie, very energetic and outgoing personality. Loves people and is very playful. Needs proper dog training, and will be a wonderful pet.

Born August 2011. Male. Lovely little mix. 17 kilos and medium sized. Found abandoned and tied to the side of the road. First rescued by the lady who found him he is now under our care for rehoming. He is very well socialized, loves the car, good with cats and children. Very sweet and friendly. Negative leish and heartworm and will soon be neutered.

Zebra - Rehomed, Portugal

Born March 22, 2012. Male. Found screaming his little lungs out at the side of the road. He is healthy, eating solid foods, but still very young and urgently needs a home or foster family. He is currently at the vets, and he truly needs someone to snuggle up to at such a young age as he has no brothers or sisters to keep him company.

Jaffa - Rehomed Michaela, Berlin

Born March 2010. 4,8 kilo, female. A very sweet and affectionate little dog. Poor Jaffa had an "owner" who left Portugal and left poor Jaffa shut in her hall corridor with no food or water for 4 days before remembering about her forgotten pet. A sad case of abuse, Jaffa was thankfully rescued by the lady after she immediately learned of this, and she is now under our care for rehoming. Negative leish and heartworm and now neutered.

Born 2010 (sorry more exact date soon). Little boy with lots of personality. Very playful and fun. Picasso was rehomed from a local canil, but his owner did not have enough time and poor guy was always on his own on the appartment terrace. He loves affection, thinks life is always fun, and very nice natured. Negative leish and heartworm and to be neutered.

A lovely cat, she found a wonderful home but sadly due to personal circumstances they can no longer keep Tina. So she has now found herself another lovely home. Lucky cat!

Kwispel - Rehomed Karin, Holland

Born 1 Nov. 2009. Male. Found Nov. 26, 2011 abandoned on the road. Severely underweight weighing 27 kilos (45+ kilos in March).Was in an awfull state, with mange, heartworm stage 1 and tickfever. Tested negative for leish. Despite his awfull prior life, amazingly friendly and outgoing personality. Happily came up to us when we pulled the car over and tried to jump into the car. Whatever you do with him, he just wags his tail... He must have been chained up, as he front teeth are completely worn due to chewing a chain/rocks. Kwispel has a new family with a large farm who has waited for him for many months hoping he would regain his health. It was a very tearful airport reunion!

Carlithos - Resolved

Carlithos has now returned to the care of ADAPO. Please see our useful links for contact details if you are interested in adopting Carlithos. Born March, 2009. Male. Carlithos was found in Olhao, abandoned and with definite signs of pain from his skull to his back. He was either kicked or involved in a caraccident. Carlithos is very sweet and affectionate when he trusts you, this may take 1 minute, or 10 minutes, he is a stable male, and would do perfect as an only dog with for example an elderly couple. In stress situations poor Carlithos will snap and has been known to unfortunately bite, nobody knows what has happened to him before, there will be a good reason for this, when he is relaxed and at ease, he is adorable......quiet and peaceful home required and best without children.

Eva - Rehomed Michaela, Berlin

Born September 2009. Female. She is very very gentle natured, but needs just a little more time and work until she is as trusting as some of our other dogs. Before we brought Eva to the shelter we would see her following a man on the streets, and could not decide whether she was his dog or an abandoned dog. When we noticed she was pregnant, we found the man and he explained that Eva had "adopted" him when she was dumped a few months earlier. He sometimes fed her, but not always, as he did not really want her to stay around. She was often crossing a very busy street corner and so we happily took Eva into our care. A very gentle natured dog, she still needs to gain confidence and learn that people can be trusted, but she is coming along amazingly fast and with a little more time we think she will make a very loving and loyal family pet. She is neutered, vaccinated and tested negative for leish and heartworm.

Kala - Rehomed Michaela, Berlin

female 11,65 kilo, dob 15-03-2009. Kala is full of character and very people oriented. She seems to be a mix French Bulldog with something unknown. She loves people and would be perfect as an only dog, she is social with males and females she meets on her outings. But she is so people oriented, she would prefer to be an only dog. Very sweet and well handled dog

Flaco - Rehomed Michaela

Born Jan. 2010. Male. Approx 7 kilo's. A little weary in the first 10 minutes, but when he gets the opportunity to figure out who you are...he is so sweet, friendly and affectionate. He comes from a house with 100+ other dogs and no shelter or canils in the area... we will do what we can to help but Flaco is currently with us for rehoming. Negative leish and heartworm and now neutered.

approx 2 years old, castrated. Upon departure from the Canil municipal Portimao, he arrived, just having been caught in a cat trap. Opening the door of the cattrap he came running out, purring his head off, and kissing us in the face.. What a nice and friendly cat...amazing...tested negative for feline aids and leukemia, is severely underweight, but should be well in short period of time..

Nizaf - Deceased

Poor Nizaf was abandoned at a local canil by owners. A horrible thing to do to a lovely, sweet natured, gentle, kind and slightly shy little girl. She was terrified, much smaller than all the other dogs, and not enough of a fighter to get to the food. We brought her out to hopefully rehome her, but very sadly she had advanced heartworm and we had no other option but to put her to sleep.

Amiga II - Rehomed, Portugal

Amiga's mummy has been waiting until she was ready for adoption. When she cam to pick her up she came with a harness and lead. A little surprised, we were even more surprised when Amiga happily trotted by her side as if she had been doing this her whole life. A perfect match for a wonderful cat. Born August 2010. Female. One bundle of friendliness and affection. Came to us from a local canil, upon arrival at the vet she came out of her box purring, throwing herself at us for cuddles and affection. Lovely cat. Negative feline leukemia and feline HIV and now neutered.

Doreen - Rehomed Kim, Berlin

Born Sept 2009. Female. Earlier this year she Doreen and her seven puppies (aged four weeks) along with her sister Delia, were brought into a local Canil/Shelter. Terribly, on arrival to the shelter Doreen was separated from all but two puppies... her sister Delia and the other puppies were placed in a different area of the shelter. Able to see but never reach her sister and the puppies, for weeks Doreen pined for her family, and without their mother's milk the three puppies became sicker and sicker, eventually dying. By the time we were able to move the family all these puppies were so ill there was no help that could be given them. Doreen is very sweet, friendly, and affectionate. Despite being a little afraid from time to time, if she knows you she is very trusting and will follow wherever and whatever you ask. She is very loyal and loving and in a quieter family would make a wonderfully rewarding family pet. She is neutered, vaccinated and tested negative leish and heartworm.

Born August 1, 2011. 7 kilo male. An extremely nice natured, friendly small dog who is very gentle. Poor Perky was thrown out of a car and the family who saw this rescued and cared for Perky for as long as possible, but were only here on holiday. Perky is very loving and we think would be very good with children, we would love to find him a very good home. Neutered and negative leish and heartworm.

Born April, 2010. Female. Affectionate and purring, if still a little shy. She was brought to us from a local shelter and has a bit of cat flu, but will soon be tested and spayed. Anna is a shy cat, it takes her a little time to first get to know you and should have a gentle and calm house where she will then come out of her shell and be a very lovely pet.

Harry - Rehomed, Portugal

Harry has found a lovely home here in Portugal, good luck Harry. Born March 2003. Male. A 9 year old cocker spaniel. We believe Harry was dumped from a car and then his owner drove away forever. He needs a loving home, where he can sleep in on the couch and go for a stroll. He adores company and has definitely been someones pet and well cared for at an earlier time in his life. He does not like being left on his own, so would do better being rehomed with another dog. A truly sweet natured, gentle older boy who sadly only wanted to be loved at this stage in his life. She is a little insecure and is looking for someone to be her own special person. If you spend even a few minutes being kind to Marigold, she will then adore you, and happily stay by your side. Friday - Deceased

Firday travelled to Berlin on March 4. Soon after his arrival he suffered an attack of night time seizures and was diagnosed with a severe type of epilepsy. Nothing could be done for Friday, many opinions were sought, and Friday was put to sleep on March 12. We are very sorry and very very sad for Friday. Rest in peace lovely boy. Born Jan. 2010. Friday is a 25,5 kilo 2 year old male, found abandoned in albufeira. He seems to have been very well handled by people before and is very friendly. He was found with bite wounds allover his body, literally from top till toes..Negative leish and heartworm and neutered.
