This is the basics of it. Two U-profiles going from the original mounting holes to the plate.
The bottom end (upside-down) with the indicator holder added. Note that I'm not really focusing on finish at this stage, after all, it's only a "buck" for the milled version. ;)
One of the first test-fits. I wanted to have a "reasonably large" plate - I don't want to upset the police more than "necessary". This one is 1" smaller in height and width. Letters are almost standard size (~1-2mm smaller).
Another angle. And I guess this one shows the annoyance with the exhausts-plate-indicators relationship. The plate's too big to fit in between the exhausts. The indicators won't easily fit above the exhausts either. And if they're above the exhausts, they're above a huge heat source.
From underneath it looks like this.
Close up of the indicator fitted.
Some coats of satin black paint. Tip: Cure the paint in the oven at 120C for 10 minutes between the coats. It gives great results.
Weight; 311grams + the indicator nuts and washers.
OEM weight (which has been chopped and has an even smaller plate): 760g. Quite a weight saving! I could shave off even more weight if I would reduce the material on the "spars".
Indicators assembled.
Fitted on the bike. I know the washers are incredibly ugly, but right now they're just there to serve a purpose.
Version 1.1 has got new braces at the top angle. Basically just a piece of alu between the angle to create a triangular structure. Fastened with another ugly pop-rivert.
View from the underside. A bit of gaffa tape to seal the hole in the undertray (for now).
I also fitted the "Micro Arrow" indicators at the front. Straight replacement from the OEM ones. And what a size difference!
Not completely unexpected; this version broke. It simply couldn't take the vibrations.
And when I say it couldn't take the vibrations, I mean in every possible way. The indicator holders were bent, the actual plate-holder were bent, and so forth. I'm working on version 1.0 of the 'real' plate holder now.
