Sheffield FC in India - Day 7

Sheffield FC travelled to Kolkata, India in November 2010 to play in the Platinum Jubilee Cup at Salt Lake Stadium. Having played in Shillong, the team travelled back to Guwahati to prepare for a game on Thursday against a select Assam XI. The team trained at the Guwahati Town Club on the Wednesday afternoon.

Sheffield FC in India - Day 6

Sheffield FC travelled to Kolkata, India in November 2010 to play in the Platinum Jubilee Cup at Salt Lake Stadium. After playing in Kolkata, the team flew North East to Guwahati on Monday (Day 5) and then travelled by minibus and car to Shillong about 3 hours drive away up in the hills. The next day (Tuesday - Day 6) Sheffield played against Shillong Lajong FC in front of over 20,000 supporters. Losing 1-0, the team gave a good account of themselves in conditions that were more similar to an English summer day. The day was rounded off with a great evening of entertainment, singing and dancing back at the hotel, with both teams and the regional minister joining in.

Sheffield FC in India - Day 4

Sheffield FC travelled to Kolkata, India in November 2010 to play in the Platinum Jubilee Cup at Salt Lake Stadium. On the Sunday Lee, Bob, Dom and Gavin went to see the Victoria Memorial Palace and visited the cenotaph at the invitation of the British High Commissioner to lay a wreath for Remembrance Sunday. Everyone then returned to the Salt Lake Stadium to watch the final of the Platinum Jubilee Cup between Mohun Bagan and East Bengal.

Sheffield FC in India - Day 3

Sheffield FC travelled to Kolkata, India in November 2010 to play in the Platinum Jubilee Cup at Salt Lake Stadium. On Saturday the team manager, Chris Dolby, his assistant, Gavin Smith, along with captain Greg Wright and Matt Roney, went along to the Mohammedan Sporting Club to do some football coaching with 200 kids from the local community. Following this session, they joined up with the rest of the squad to distribute 1000 tickets for the final on Sunday to under privileged children in Kolkata. The day was finished off with a Gala Dinner at the Taj Bengal Hotel.

Sheffield FC travelled to Kolkata, India in November 2010 to play in the Platinum Jubilee Cup at Salt Lake Stadium. Day 2 of the tour saw Sheffield play Mohun Bagan at Salt Lake Stadium. Sheffield lost 1-0 on the day to a goal in the 89th minute.

Sheffield FC in India - Day 1

Sheffield FC travelled to Kolkata, India in November 2010 to play in the Platinum Jubilee Cup at Salt Lake Stadium. After arriving at Kolkata airport where the press and local media greeted them, the team proceeded to the Taj Bengal hotel for a press conference including Indian test cricketer Sourav Ganguly, before heading off to a training session at the Mohammedan Sporting Club ground.

Sheffield FC Gala Dinner 2010

Sheffield FC's Annual Gala Dinner took place again at Baldwin's Omega in Sheffield. A great night was had by all those attending and raised much needed funds for the club and it's Boots for Africa charity. Items up for auction included: a Brazil football shirt signed by legendary captain Carlos Alberto, Michael Sheen's Soccer Aid football shirt, a 2 night stay in Sheffield's Leopold Hotel and a place on the forthcoming Sheffield FC India Tour.

Sheffield FC Ladies Race For Life 2010

Sheffield FC Ladies took part in the Cancer Research Race for Life.Sheffield FC Ladies joined 2500 women in a 5k run round the streets of Chesterfield last Sunday morning to help raise money for Cancer Research UK. Members of the Ladies first and reserve teams, plus the team manager, took part to support the charity and enjoyed the added bonus of some extra pre-season fitness training. With the vast majority of competitors dressed largely in pink-based kits of all descriptions, the SFC team attracted a good deal of attention and support as they progressed round the route dressed in the red and black Sheffield FC home kit, sponsored by Welcome to Yorkshire.

No Glove, No Love Campaign

Leigh Walker of Sheffield FC got his gloves out for NHS Derbyshire County’s ‘No Glove, No Love’ initiative reminding fans to practise safe sex while they enjoy a summer of football. 1 in 5 people have tested positive for HIV in South Africa, so fans are being urged to be extra careful if they are planning to travel over there to see one of the matches.

Sheffield FC 2010 Awards Night

Sheffield FC held their Annual Presentation Night at Olive Grove in Sheffield. Players from the Mens First Team, Reserves and Under 19s collected their awards, whilst the Ladies team displayed the trophy, they had been presented with earlier in the day, for winning the North East Regional Womens Football League. The Over 35s were unable to attend as they were busy collecting their League and Cup trophies at the Wragg League presentation dinner. The club has had a very succesful season with teams at all levels winning trophies, or finishing highly in their relevant competitions.

Sheffield FC Daffodils in Bloom Spring 2010

Sheffield FC comes alive with daffodils in the spring. Bulbs, kindly donated to Sheffield FC by Dronfield in Bloom, cut swathes of colour through the trees outside the BT Local Business Stadium. The bright yellow flowers bring a glow of colour to the ground during the spring months.

Sheffield FC Annual Quiz & Race Night 2010

The Quiz and Race Night was organized by Alan Wake to raise funds for the club and the event was sponsored by Mercury Taxis. The evening raised £300 for Sheffield FC whilst providing an evening of entertainment for all those that attended. Apart from the quiz, there were 5 races sponsored by supporting businesses: Whithorne Estate Agents, City Sameday Couriers, Mercury Taxis and Peter Bowden Sports Maintenance. The pictures show the winning owners/jockeys of each race receiving their prizes from the sponsor.

Sheffield FC Sport Relief Mile 2010

Sheffield FC's players helped promote and support the Sport Relief Mile. Sheffield FC supported this years Sport Relief with all the 1st Team Squad donning their Welcome to Yorkshire match day kits to complete the run. The Worlds First Football Club, always looking to go that extra step to help others, actually ran 1.05511 miles which converts to 1857 yards, the year Sheffield FC was formed. The players were delighted to do their bit for such a great cause and were fighting to wear the specially created Sport Relief T Shirts. Sheffield Captain Tom Jones said, “Just a small effort from us can make a great difference to other peoples lives both here and abroad. We are doing fantastic work with Boots for Africa and this sits alongside it perfectly.”

Sheffield FC Gala Dinner 2009

Sheffield FC's 152nd birthday Annual Dinner proved to be a successful affair at Baldwin's Omega last night. Representatives from all areas of the club, it's sponsors, supporters and players past and present, dined and danced the night away, to celebrate not only the club's birthday, but also the announcements of a move back into Sheffield to Olive Grove and the proposed installation of a Ball of Steel monument to celebrate two events in Sheffield and the nation's history: the invention of Stainless Steel and the brth and home of The World's First Football Club - Sheffield FC. Following a successful auction of items of memorabilia including: a pair of signed Didier Drogba football boots, a signed Manchester United football, and the services for a day of ex club manager Dave McCarthy and his assistant Lee Walshaw, the guests were free to chat and dance the night away.

BBC's Damien Johnson came to visit Sheffield FC's BT Local Business Stadium to interview Richard Tims and film some footage for the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year show later in 2009 at the Sheffield Arena.

Sheffield FC 150th Anniversary Match v Inter Milan 2007

Italian giants Inter Milan came to Sheffield to mark the 150th anniversary of the first football club in the world. The Serie A club – twice Champions League winners – played Sheffield FC at Bramall Lane in a prestigious game to mark the club’s football milestone. Inter, who celebrated their centenary in March 2008, brought a squad of 26 players from various countries. Coach and former Italian international Roberto Mancini and President Dr Massimo Moratti also attended the game
