I took the SuperSeaCat (the ship on the left). It completes the journey from Helsinki to Tallinn in 1 hour and 40 minutes, instead of 3 1/2 hours for a traditional ferry.
Here is the Helsinki terminal.
The view of Tallinn as the ship pulls into port.
"Fat Margaret", one of the medieval towers on the city wall.
City Hall, one of the best preserved Gothic city halls in Europe.
The town square...the cafes on the town square remind me of Brugge. Compare http://www.pseudoprime.com/b6.html
They shut down some of the Old Town streets for a "ski sprint" contest.
I guess the extra "E" stands for "Estonia".
A typical medieval Estonian living room.
Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, as seen from the top of the "Kiek in de Kök" tower.
Tall Hermann's Tower
Me in front of Toompea Castle, now home to the Estonian parliament.
I stopped here for a lunch of moose curry.
The second version of the "Old Thomas" weather vane on top of city hall. The first version lasted several hundred years before being damaged by Soviet bombing in 1944. The third version is currently in use.
A painting of the establishment of independent Estonia. This painting was hidden from the Soviets until Estonia regained independence.
Me in front of the World Heritage plaque.
An example of Stalinist architecture.
This run-down old apartment building shows that not all of Tallinn is as wealthy and attractive as Old Town.
I bought this watercolor to remind me of Tallinn. I think it really has a fantasy feel to it.
On the return journey, we passed our sister ship.
