Tim is driving Lois looking for the entrance to Laurel Caverns
We feel like we are running late. Very late... we will only be there 15 minutes before time.
YAY! There's the entrance!
Yet somehow we are still far away!
Tim is reading the release forms that stress how strenuous ths hike is. It is like climbing a 45 story building.
Honestly, this hard hat was a miracle. I would have been concussed has it not beeen strapped to my head.
We can't wait to feel the constant 52 degree temperature.
Looking at pictures of earlier adventures.
Check out my new hiking boots. That's right, I'm all geared up.
And that's the backpack I took to the grand canyon. Greatest $8 ever spent.
Off we go into the caves!
Note the magnolia wall paper. Nice touch.
Certain places were lit with colored lights. and there were streams running throughout. Except for the dirt, it was very clean water. ;)
No flash to show how dark it was getting. We were required to bring 2 sources of light each.
The upper caves were lit and had some walkways to make the journey easier. That didn't last long.
Again, note the awesome backpack!
The chandeliers make a nice touch. Reminicient of the magnolia wallpaper.
Hi ISO doesn't always make for the best photo.
Those were written with soot from oil lamps. There were signatures from 1822!
We are about to leave the lit area and now must strap on our helmets.
Th passages are gettng mre narrow.
Though the Mag Light is fabulous, it would have been better to have the helmet lamp. Some places you needed to heft yourself over rocks, two hands are much better than one.
Always have three points of contact, so if one slips, you are still connected to the earth with two.
Tiny tiny places we crawled. There was usually the option of hard, medium or easy routes.
The spectral image is generated by the 100% humidity in the caves.
Plate Tectonics at work!
Tim's turn to chimney climb through this set of rocks.
Up he goes!
Angle Fish rock
You can also learn to rapel down the side of a cliff.
Land line in case someone gets injured. Which they suggested you don' as the rescue crew takes 8 to 12 hours.
This is the end of the hike. Not as strenous as the Grand Canyon was. The 52 degrees helped quite a bit.
