Borrego Camping MLK Weekend

We took advantage of the three day weekend by meeting Grandpa Gary and Grandma Louise for camping in Anza Borrego along S2. We had a great time exlporing the mud caves and slot canyons. We also snuck in a great sunset cruise when we got back to San Diego. Hard to believe how much there is to do in San Diego County.

1st Annual Guys Trip to Baja

Summer 09 in Grass Valley

Gabriel and I had such a nice visit. It was great catching up with friends.... but we loved every minute of family time. Thank you all for the birthday party and great gifts for Gabriel. Gabriel at 7 months

Gabriel weighed in at 17 pounds 5 ounces (just below normal) and came in at almost 28 inches (above normal) at his 6 month check-up. In Johnston tradition, his head is larger than normal.

Gabriel at 6 months

Gabriel just turned 6 months and weighed in at 17.2 pounds. We had a busy month with lots of activities ranging from hikes, running, and visiting some grand parents. Gabriel continues to amaze us with his love and joy.

Hike up to Cuyumaca Peak at 5 Months

We did the 5.4 mile roundtrip hike up to Cuyumaca Peak. It's probably a good 1500ft of climbing but well worth the views...and who would have thought this would have been Gabriel's first encounter with snow!

End of November and into December Activities

We returned from Baja and kept a busy schedule of hiking, visiting family and cheering friends race Ironman Arizona, and doing some running. Some of the activities including hiking up Cowles Mtn, running at various spots in San Diego, and relaxing.

work trip 4-2008

I took a quick trip down to get some work done on the place. I installed a new bathroom vanity, new faucets in the kitchen and bathroom, curtain rods in two rooms, and did a lot of painting. Little by little the place is coming along.

Work Trip April 2008

Made an unannounced trip down to Asuncion to work on the casita. Finished the bedroom, installed a new window, a new vanity, and new faucets in the kitchen and bath...oh and a lot of painting.

Asuncion Christmas 07-08

We went to our place in Bahia Asuncion for Christmas and New Years. Work on this trip included a new roof, window, stove, fridge, and other various work. Our friends Chuck and Laura came down to help out and we are very thankful to them for everything.

St. Monica Trail Run 07

We did our first 30K trail run together. We were under-trained and had planned on running the 11 mile option but at the last moment decided to "go for it." We completed the 18.6 mile route with 3,200 feet of climbing in just over 4 hours.

Bahia Asuncion

Went down to buy our property in Asuncion...completed on Sept 5 2007. The house needs a fresh coat of paint and some love. The lot is huge, though, with 880 sq. meters. We're also trying to buy the lot behind ours. We now have our canvas and it's time to create art.

Trinidad_San Pedro Martir 5-2006

I decided to explore Valle de Trinidad and then head up to San Pedro Martir. The road from Mike's was a bit hectic travelling alone and I was going against pre-runners. But the flowers were in bloom and the scenery was insane. I rode my mountain bike up to the Observatory and got some great pics, too.

Triathlon training in Anza-Borrego

We head out to Anza Borrego whenever possible to train. Wildflower is the Woodstock of triathlons and takes place in May. Each year, we camp out with friends, race hard, and then party into the night. And by the way, it's just a difficult as an Ironman.
