Gyeongbokgung - Changing of the guard

The palace guard is being changed 3 times a day, and it's quite a big ceremony, as usuall. I've been lucky enough to arrive at the palace just when the 1st change was about to begin, and I managed to take some pictures of it.

Seoul - Gyeongbokgung palace

This palace served as the principal palace until it was destroyed by Japanese invaders in 1592. It was the biggest palace in Seoul, but it remained ruins until 19th century, when it was rebuilt. But then Japanese invaded Korea again, and guess what ;). Anyways, Koreans reconstructed it again and so I could visit it and took the following pictures.

South Korea - Seoul

I made this brief trip to Seoul, South Korea in September 2006, and returned back to Japan afterwards. Althought there was quite a lot of smog in the air and pictures were not that bright, I pick few to show here.

Sendai - Shinkansen depot

The main Shinkansen depot for northern Japan is located about 20 minutes from Sendai, so it was ideal destination for a short trip during the company holidays.

Sendai - Tanabata festival

Tanabata festival is traditional summer event in Sendai and one of the 3 main festivals in Japan. The main streets of the city were decorated with huge paper “stuff” which you can see in the following pictures.

Alps festival

The Alps company, where I worked, is organizing this small festival for locals every August. It's quite usuall japanese festival - family event with some musical performance, lots of foodstalls and firework in the end.

Sóma - horse festival

Sóma is city in the Fukushima prefecture, where I happened to be doing my summer internship in the Alps Inc. Apart of the factory, the city is famous for it's horse parade, which is held annually every summer. It was quite crowded, but I still managed to take some pictures.

Inuyama castle

Inuyama is the oldest castle in Japan, surviving all the wars, earthquakes, fires and WWII. bombing. Visited in July 2006 and the rainy season was not over yet.

Sendai - Zuihó-den

Zuihó-den is the grave of Masamune Date, one of the most famous lords of feudal Japan and the man who has made Sendai what it is today (the biggest city in northern Japan). visited in July 2006, during the rainy season, eh...

Hakone

Hakone pass is the ultimate weekend tourist spot for Tokyoites, and so even I had to go there once. This pictures were taken in February 2006 and the weather was gloomy, but had some atmosphere I liked.

Enoshima

I have met Bartek while he was visiting his friedns in Prague for few days. That was in 2004. Then I went to Japan and came back to Czech, while Bartek went back to Poland and then decided to go to Japan one year later. And as I came to Japan again in February 2006, we met there and together with Miku made this trip to Enoshima, an island near Tokyo.

Yokohama

The very last trip I've made in Japan during my study abroad, in the late September 2005. Yokohama's super-modern center called Minato Mirai 21 is nice place to see during a one day trip, especially if there is some car show...

Odaiba II - Fuji TV

After visiting Fuji san, it made sense to make a visit to the FujiTV, the most popular commercial television in Japan. The main buliding can be found in Odaiba, and as everything else there, it's a bit crazy.

Fuji san

A mandatory trip for every long-term visitor in Japan. Fuji-san is maybe the highest, but definitelly not the most beautiful peak in the country. Still, the sunrise watched from the top is worth of seeing. Pictures were taken in the beginning of Septermber 2005.

Yasukuni jinja

Yasukuni shrine is quite a controversy in Japan, as this Shinto institution is dedicated to the heros who died in all battles Japan has ever fought, including those of WWII. Politics aside, the place itself is nice, and I made those pictures in late August 2005.

Izu hanto

The Izu peninsula is a place famous for the most important Shinto shrine in Japan. I made the "pilgrimage" to there in August 2005.

Magome&Tsumago

Magome and Tsumago are small villages in the central Honshu, famous for their well preserved architecture and overall nice atmosphere. I've visited them in the August 2005 and here are some pictures taken there.

47 ronin cemetery

The old japanese legend about 47 ronins is way too long to explain here. But there is a cemetery in Tokyo, to commemorate those warriors. And here are some pictures I've made there in August 2005.
