2010 Samoan Language Week
What a wonderful week was had at Kowhai for Samoan Language Week. Every day this past weekday the tamaiti took turns "broadcasting" their own version of Radio Samoa over the intercom system to the school. They had a lot of fun preparing and making the broadcasts which were received positively by staff and students.
The highlight of the week was hosting an ava demonstration for Richmond Road's Mua i Malae Samoan unit. This was followed by a beautiful lunch with talo, chopsuey/rice, chicken and coleslaw. Thankyou to all parents who contributed mea'ai for this and who helped out on the day or with providing equipment for the demonstraton. A special thankyou to Joanne Okesene for inviting Tanuvasa to explain the concept of the 'ava ceremony and involve the children in the demonstration.
