Welcome to Sugarite Canyon. $5/car per day for the visit. Well worth the price of admission. It took us 3 hours exactly to get to Sugarite from Los Alamos.
Wild turkey hanging out near the entrance to the park.
The direct approach through the oaks to the base of the cliffs. Approach time, 10 minutes.
First view of the cliffs. The big roof is the Great Roof. An established 5.9 goes to the left of the roof. I climbe the line to the right which has surely been climbed before but we had no knowledge of it. It was about 5.10a and not very sustained.
Mark on Salt Mother, 5.8
Minesh on lead of Crack Head, 5.8. Nice hands and stemming.
Me on lead of Endless Summer, 5.9+, finger crack and pocket climbing with tricky, small pro.
Chris takes on the Great Roof Left, 5.9. Really good crack climbing with great pro.
Chris sinks a hand jam on Sapphire, 5.8
Minesh cruising up Right On Raton, 5.8, with a tricky start.
The wonderful view south from the wall.
View of the left end of the wall from the top of S&M Crack.
The obvious crack in the middle of the photo is S&M Crack, 5.11a. Really enjoyable, steep, sustained hand crack climbing.
View of Dog Day, 5.10c/d finger crack.
Rose belayed by Mark on Jam Your Blues Away, 5.10a.
View of the right end of the wall.
Cool sunset clouds on the drive home.
