Flying into Salt Lake City, UT...it had just snowed, obviously.
Rick Bradshaw from LA was on our flight. He's living and working in France now and was on his way there.
A big lake but not THE lake.
I found this little island interesting because it had at least four bridges going out to it and didn't look like much.
The Great Salt Lake is up there as is Antelope Island.
We got wheels!
You mess with the buffalo, you get the horns
The deal is, each runner brings some canned veggies and they make buffalo stew with it for all the runners after the race. Obviously, we were there early.
Saturday morning, 5:43am, waiting near the fire for the 50 milers to start.
Charles Corfield and other 50 milers wait patiently for the 6am start
RD Jim Skaggs in his buffalo hat give a pre-race briefing
The runners eat it up
50 milers getting primed to start
The Beist (in tan) busts out at the 50 miler start
50 milers paralleling the start just after starting
50 milers running along the hill in the first couple of miles
Odd, we saw an Antelope on Antelope Island
Some salt flats leading to the lake to the mountains. Gorgeous.
Fast forward to post race! I ran a great race for me and finished fourth out of 152 registered 50k runners in 4:40. After the race we were treated to buffalo stew. Yum!
Always super strong Charles Corfield finishes the 50 mile race in 8:06
Buffalo! We saw many of them throughout the race
Post race beer for me was a 8% ABV Devastator!
The Beist finishing super strong in his fastest 50 miler ever in 8:53
Unfortunately, a runner finished and was complaining of chest pain. The flew in the chopper to pick him up.
Nena Warren-Felsher finishes the 50k in strong fashion in 7:30
Beist's feet complete with dirt tan
Dave from Denver finishing the 50k in 8:15
Minesh says he should have run the 25k. Walking in the 50k at 8:50
Post race beers, cowbells and hanging out
I managed to place third in the men's 30-39 age group and scored a piece of wood that was supposed to have a buffalo nickel glued to it.
Gorgeous scenery out on the island. (Wasatch range with snow)
