Camping at Red Hills near Ooty, Tamil Nadu, India
Feb 23-24, 2008 A road trip in India for me after a long gap of 7 months. Sachin, Archana, Somendra, Shweta, Souparna, Vinodh and Sankara form the roadie club and hit the road in 2 cars (Lancer and Swift) and 1 bike (pulsar). This time the destination is Red Hills, an ecosystem of 8 lakes nestled in the Blue mountains (Nilgiris), about 30 kms east of Ooty. The intention was to camp by the lake side, but due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to move to Plan B, but we still ended up camping at Red Hills Resort, that was built by the British in 1875 and that is now being run by the Vijaykumar family. This trip, like all other road trips had all the ingredients of a bang-up weekend - 720 kms over 2 days, good roads, 36 hairpin bends, no roads (butt-breakers), camping close to nature, camp fire and -OH sessions, drunken banter, getting intoxicated by the pure air, good food, sun burns, bitter cold winds, a fabulous drive/ride. and goodies (chocolates from Ooty) for the household.
