Mordor in Langford: The Ecological Holocaust on "Skirt Mountain"
This is a photo-journal of the destruction of Spaeth Mountain, also known locally as "Skirt Mountain" and now bastardized into the cheesy "Bear Mountain." Spaeth Mountain was once amongst the regions primary geological features, and was blanketed in a beautiful Douglas fir, arbutus and Garry oak forest. For millenia, the beautiful Spaeth Cave, with it's transluscent mineral water pool near the summit of the mountain, was a spiritual cleansing destination for First Nations. Now this once-beautiful landmark feature of our landscape, has been virtually destroyed, on three sides by the worst and most voracious golf, condo and monsterhouse developments currently underway on the island, and the last quarter is now slated to go...
