We hiked here on May 13 but I was without my camera then. I returned on the following Friday and walked the Lost Trail, this time with the camera. The flowers were still there but the views were not so good. The fog had blown a fine mist over the bay.

Martin scouted the Skyline and Loughry Woods trails to look for fallen trees and other items that would need attention from the Castle Rock Volunteer Trail Crew. One small tree was removed and a larger one trimmed up.

A walk on Palo Alto Baylands, started by the Duck Pond, went to the end of the runway then visited the boat launch pier. A large colony of Black-crowned Night herons are now nesting in the trees by the Duck Pond.

I scouted trails at Castle Rock state Park to look for damage after the storm that happened on March 24. I parked at the main lot and hiked past The Falls by way of the Castle Rock Trail. There were no fresh tree falls. I met some hikers who assured me that there was only one tree down on the Saratoga Gap/Ridge Trail loop and that was the one that we knew about close to the start of the trail up to Goat Rock. I returned to the parking lot after a brief excursion to view that tree on the trail to Goat Rock then parked at Saratoga Gap prior to scouting the Skyline Trail. There's a madrone down just before the first road access and another just after. there's another madrone and an oak just before the cutoff to the CDF repeater. The Skyline trail is otherwise clear.

I scouted the main loop at Castle Rock State Park (Saratoga Gap Trail - Ridge Trail) to check if there were any trees or branches blocking the trails after the pre-Thanksgiving storm. It was a wonderful day for a hike and I had very little work to do, just one log by Russell Point and a few branches and minor debris on the Ridge Trail.

I had set out on the river-crossings hike but had to abandon the group up by the campground on the way to the Observation Platform. The sweat of the up-hill hike was irritating my rash that was the result of allergy to medication. I returned to the main tourist area at a leisurely pace and took photos.

I screwed up on this first wildflower hike of the year. The camera had got changed to shutter priority, not program or auto. I had to correct by up to 5 f-stops with the computer.
