Where's Level
"Where's Level" series - digital photographs.
artists statement: since the birth of mans consciousness, we are oriented to to the ever present horizon line. the horizon defines the limits of our earthly vision. our brains are set to auto...matically recognize the horizon - even if we can't see it - as the "level" axis of our world view. we can stand inside an enclose space, like a living room and look at a painting on the wall and tell if it is not level: i.e. it does not line up with our built-in sense of the horizon that is out there on the other side of the wall. humans favor building things in straigt lines- vertically and horizontally. objects that are not on these axis are not level. but what if the photographer intentionally turns the camera, to that the frame of the image is inline with an off axis object line? the horizontal aspect of the object in the frame is our horizon, but the rest of the image is tilted and off axis, thus forcing us into a conflict- what is level?
