Fished the upper Illinois river Monday and Tuesday from my kayak floating from Combs Bridge to my friend's cabin at Sparrowhawk Mtn. It's about a 9 mile float but I paddled about half of it fishing about 6 hrs.
I stayed 3 nights at the cabin, this was steak night!
The river is beautiful right now with some nice fall colors. I saw bald eagles, a kingfisher and lots of herons. I was all alone on the river on Monday, Tuesday there was a group of five friendly kayakers who past by and that was the only folks I saw for the two days.
Fishing was very good even though ao caught a lot of the pumkinseeds.
On Tuesday the wind was really blowing but the fish were hitting my poppers like mad.
I got into a bunch of kentucky bass along a stone bluff and caught nearly a dozen in that one spot.
The blue gill were active too.
biggest fish of the day
When I arrived at the cabin, my good friends met me at the river with frozen margaritas! An excellent way to end a good day on the river.
