The blog author of Cake Wrecks, Jen Yates, came to Plano yesterday to do a tour of her book Cake Wrecks. My sister, mom and I went to Legacy Books in Plano to get a book, some cake and have a fun time.

Pom Pom's Birthday Cake

My husband's grandmother (nicknamed Pom Pom) celebrated her 88th birthday this past week. She didn't want any presents, so I asked her if I could make her a birthday cake. She requested a lemon flavored cake with chocolate icing. I asked her what her favorite color was so that I could make roses for the cake in that color. She told me "hot pink". Awesome.

Rose Cupcakes

I'm making a birthday cake for my husband's grandmother's 88th birthday this week and I needed to practice my roses. So I made some cupcakes to practice with and they turned out way better than I expected.

Mom's Birthday Cake

Mother's Day 2009

I made some cupcakes for Mother's Day. I know, I'm not supposed to do any work on Mother's Day, but technically I made them on Saturday, the day before. I was playing around with coloring icing and making it from scratch for my cake class and the icing consistency wasn't awesome, because my flowers look kind of ragged on the outside, but I was really pleased with how the pink came out. Maybe once I learn the actual technique of making these flowers they'll look better next time.

Ben's Birthday Cupcakes

I made Ben some carrot cake cupcakes for his birthday. I made half frosted with cream cheese frosting and the other half, I decorated with fondant in the form of The Flash Emblem from DC Comics. The Flash is Ben's favorite super hero.
