Akko/Acre
Akko, an old town on the mediterranean coast in the north part of Israel had a long history. Over the centuries it has been occupied by muslim rulers, crusaders, mamluk rulers, ottomans, british and now is part Israel.
Ruins from all these periods can be seen. Most remarkable is construction from Crusader era which is well preserved. According to legends the remains of the crusader fort were filled with sand by the mamluk occupants, who then built a new city on top of them.
Pictures include current mosque, some constructions from crusader era, a turkish bathhouse from the ottoman period.
