We now realize how much must be destroyed...
A lot less of that nasty cedar in the bilge.
The keelson has had 1/4" excised from the top, plus is gone entirely where not salvageable.
Aft, keelson entirely gone, and routed up into the mahogany. Less so forward.
This patch didn't seat properly, missed that. Have chiseled it out, will patch in a patch to the patch.
prior patches sanded down
Foward hull patches in
All hull patches in -- at least for this season. Will continue forward at a later date.
The patch of the patch.
Starting to rebuild the keelson as well.
second layer -- beneath this are some small center strips forward of the last keelbolt
The next two keelson layers. Note the slot aft for the rudder post, and the square holes for the keelbolts. In order to fit over the post and bolts, this is necessary -- the rudderpost is obviously not vertical, but neither are all the keelbolts unfortunately. Thus where they are located in the horizontal plane changes from top to bottom. Smaller patches are cut that fit tightly over the keelbolts and fill the square holes.
A square patch with a round hole. Note also the patch behind the rudder post to fill the slot.
The lower portion of the keelson midships, where the bulkhead goes. The dark wood seems good -- not soft, cuts cleanly, just discolored.
More square patches with round holes.
The final layer of the keelson rebuild. It is about 88" long. It is held down with blocks around the keelbolts, with a tapered base block, as well as staples.
Uncovered and starting to sand the patches.
Four new aft floor timbers. Four more to go.
New timbers, one with limber holes, the other not yet.
forward patches sanded, and four more floor timbers in.
timbers being varnished on a bed of nails (well, screws)
varnishing complete, timbers being installed and sealed in
