A short distance from Todmorden is the hamlet of Oldroyd.
Oldroyd: a collection of weavers' cottages grouped around Oldroyd farm on the south slope of the Calder valley.

From Lumbutts, the path follows the Causeway which leads East over the moors towards Cragg Vale and Mytholmroyd.
Looking back down the Causeway. One explanation for the paved path is that they allowed travellers to follow the route in the dark without the need of a light.
Stoodley Pike. The original monument, rebuilt in the mid-19th Century, celebrated the end of the Napoleonic wars.

The reservoirs are fed by contour hugging catchment channels which wend around the sides of the moors, and provide nice flat walking. A view towards Blackstone Edge.

The modern intrusion of the M62
The Pennine Way crosses the M62 on a narrowfootbridge, from which this photograph is taken.
On White Hill the clouds descend, these pillars mark the pack horse track from Haigh Gutter to Marsden.
