Kamikochi via iPhone
Took me tent up to the highlands to see Kamikochi in the fall. Everything had mostly fallen by then--especially the temperature!--but it was exceptionally beautiful. If only I could volunteer there!

Sunburn City
My friend Dan invited Andy and me down to his (rather well off) student's beach house on the southern tip of the Chiba penninsula. I got reacquainted with the ocean after several years away. Yes, despite what you may have heard, Japan is that big.

Chiharu and I took a 3-day trip to the top of Japan for Christmas. We went to the zoo. All the pictures were taken with my iPhone, as an experiment.

Some stuff I did that I'm finally getting around to posting online. The Nagano trip was a weekendlong date with Chiharu. Her first time to the city.

Fukuroda no Taki
Fukuroda is a town in northern Ibaraki, about two hours from where I live. The mountains there are steep, but still somebody went through the trouble of putting up a staircase. The summer pictures are from the summer; the fall pictures are from the fall.

Koriyama
Sane, Ino, Nobu-chan, and I went to a spa for the holiday weekend, and did much unwinding among the greenery and Caribbean blue. This is the colorfullest album I have so far.

Matsumoto & Kamikochi
After Aokigahara, Sane left for Tokyo and I headed for my beloved Nagano--to a handful of places I'd never been, including Matsumoto and the gorgeous Kamikochi nature reserve.

Doomwood
Sane and I went to the tourist part of Aokigahara ("Blue Tree Floor"), aka Jukai ("Forest Sea"). We wanted to go into the part where the cops find the suicides--70ish annually--but the forest was so angry and difficult to manage, we turned back.

Kamakura
I took a day off to go sakura-watching. I decided on Kamakura and asked Sane to go with me. There's a cool train that runs from Kamakura to Enoshima called the Eno-den. It's ancient and runs on the road half the time, so cars have to move out the way. Cool.

sakura@Tsukuba
The Nakata family took me on two strolls to see the cherry blossoms, and then we ate soba. I didn't include pictures of the kids for security, I suppose.

Hanami!
Hanami is a picnic under the cherry blossoms during their 10-day bloomfest. With guys my age, that also means copious drinking. And sushi afterwards. And karaoke after that. And ramen afterwards.

Nagano City
I concocted me a four-day weekend at the end of November (23-26) to hit the countryside (again). I went to (the city of) Nagano, which was both a lot smaller and a lot more naturey than I thought it'd be. Go me.
