Coffee's done, suiting up for the annual Sebago Frostbite Regatta 2010! Steve's almost ready.
Adele & John were already setting up for the party - thanks for doing the work while we all went out to play!
More suiting up!
On to the dock, here comes Minh & Kevin. Stevie supervises!
Steve H, all tuilique'd up, and is that a sailor back there? And Jerry's seeing us off.
Launching!
That was a sailor, it's Chris, who'd joined the winter paddling crew earlier this winter.
And we're off!
Wind Please?
Chris eventually started paddling too.
Out on the bay, the breeze picked up enough for Chris to stow the paddle, but he decided to stay near the Paerdegat. I headed on out to join the paddlers.
The paddlers didn't go too far either - here's Minh at Buoy 10, that's maybe a mile and a half from Sebago (#12 is the nun straight off the Paerdegat, this is the next one heading towards the Rockaway Inlet).
Perfect day for paddling!
Frostbite Crew 2010! Left to right, Stevie, Steve, Minh, Kevin & Pete.
Suiting up for rolling! The water's quite cold right now, mid-30's at the dock but I'd run across some early stages of ice out in the middle of the bay on the 30th, and that doesn't happen until 29 degrees or so. For the traditional New Year's Day rolls, we add heavy hoods, and Stevie's putting on thick neoprene mittens.
Minh's over!
Minh's up!
There goes Stevie!
Up comes Stevie! Ice-cream headache time!
Steve H. rolls!
My turn!
Gotta do a little Greenland too -
again
and again...
and again - usually this time of year I like to do 3 on each side, but I was just really enjoying it today & didn't want to stop.
There go the rest of the rollers again!
Wind picked up enough for Chris to come out our way -
taking each other's pictures!
and off he goes! Not that there are real prizes or anything but he won for longest stay on the bay. I stayed out & paddled around after him for a while,
but eventually the thought of all the people (and good food) who'd be at the clubhouse made me say "I'm going in". Holly was coming out on her Laser just as I got to the bridge (this was after my camera stopped working or there'd be picutres), and it was really tempting to turn around & go paddle some more -
but I decided I really needed to go get my homemade teriyaki chicken wings out on the buffet so I didn't end up bringing the entire dish home with me! Happy New Year all, and best wishes for 2010!
