Soldiers' Monument in Reagan Park. View is from the south, facing NE from Glassburn Street. Grain Elevator can be seen in far background.
Soldiers' Monument in Reagan Park, facing west. The "house with carport to the right in background is where the old Phillips 66 gas station was. Just to the left of that is where the old Electric Light Plant stood. That building no long exists.
View looking directly west. Glassburn Street to the left, where Ronald Reagan lived from age 3 months to about 9 years old.
Base of Soldiers' Monument. See the history of this monument on our website.
With some remorse by those that were there, the old gazebo that was erected during the Tampico Centennial was removed and this beautiful new wooden gazebo replaces it. It is so tranquil and invites everyone to sit and listen. Notice the new lamp posts and sidewalks, put in by T.A.R.P. and the many volunteers from the community.
This is a view looking east towards "Pig Alley" and Stock Yards. Sidewalk leads to Tampico's Main Street. Benches were purchased as memorials to loved ones as noted by the plates on the top of bench.
This is one of the memorial name plates on bench. In memory of Gordon Glassburn, a descendant of our founding father, J. W. Glassburn. His wife, Margaret (Smith) still lives in Tampico (2007)
This is the cannon that replaced the old civil war cannon we once had in this park. REPLACEMENT OF CIVIL WAR CANNON WITH 105mm HOWITZER Presented to: Tampico Historical Society MAY 31, 1994 Tampico American Legion #574 John Taets – Commander Brick Wall in background will be used to post "Town Activities" for citizens and visitors to Tampico.
Looking west from Main Street entrance to Reagan Park. This part was originally called "Depot Park" and then "Railroad Park." The train depot was just to the right, but was torn down many years ago.
This is looking south from Reagan Park. House is now a private residence, but it was the home of Jack, Nelle, Neil & Ronald Reagan. The Reagans moved here from the apartment on Main Street when Ronnie was about 3 months old and lived here until he was about 9 years old. Depot Park was a favorite play area for Ronnie and Neil - especially climbing on the old civil war cannon.
Not much to look at now. It is the platform where the old civil war cannon once sat. It was hoped it would be the base for the Bronze statue of Ronald Reagan, but it is not large enough. When enough funds are raised, the statue will most likely be placed in the NE section of park. Contributions are still being accepted. See our website for instructions.
A closeup view of Ronald Reagan's Boyhood home on Glassburn street. Sign reads: "Ronald Reagan BOYHOOD Home" It is a private residence now. It is about one block south of the apartment where Ronnie was born in Tampico, IL
Not a good photo and I will add more eventually. This home is just to the east of the Reagan boyhood house. It was built by and for our founding father, J. W. Glassburn around the turn of the century. It is currently vacant and for sale. Any philanthropists out there that would be willing to purchase it for the town and let us make it an extention of our Historical Society???? PLEASE contact Denise McLoughlin if interested!!! (BIG smile!) tahs@thewisp.net!
One extremely beautiful little girl enjoying the new teeter-totter in Reagan Park. (said the mamma)
Just too beautiful, so have posted another photo of her! This is facing west.
Looking west. That is the Tampico United Methodist Church in background.
Oh - there is that gorgous child again!
I love this view. It is looking NE from Reagan Park. The white building in background is where Pig Ally was and the stock yards. The bench and trees are memorials to Terry L. Adamson. He and wife, Beverly owned the Dutch Diner for several years in Tampico. He is dearly missed, especially by his 12 children and umpteen grandchildren!
There's that adorable little girl again. She is standing in front of the "Memorial Wall" in the southeast corner of Reagan Park.
This is not a very good "shot" but it is taken from the same direction that it was photographed in 1907. That photo is on our website as well as well as the newspaper articles when it was erected. This is taken from ground level, faciing south (and slightly east). The small sign to the right in background is in the yard for Ronald Reagan's boyhood home. The original photo in 1907 was taken from a higher level - I suspect from the second story of the old Electric Light Plant.

Photos by Ashley M. Poskin/Gazette Emcee Don Lester addresses community members gathered Sunday afternoon at Reagan Park, in Tampico. Lester and members of the Tampico Area Revitalization Project re-dedicated the park to celebrate the completion of improvements at the park. Volunteers contributed countless hours of work, and donations from Tampico residents and Reagan Park supporters provided everything from cement to the new gazebo.
