11:56 - Preparing to fly from the very cute south facing take-off at Marlens
11:56 - The take-off faces south but today the morning inversions are limiting climbs in front of take off to about 100m above the ridge
12:47 - After scratching at Marlens for a while I flew onto the south east end of the Aravis to follow Jon
12:48 - It was quite rough at the start but then it improved and progress was easy along the east face
12:48 - Stright line to join Pascal below Charvin where the most consistent thermal was operating
13:06 - Looking back at Charvin and down the valley towards Marlens where we started
13:06 - Great clouds waiting along the Chaine des Aravis - this is transition time between it working on the east face and the west face - I chose the west side
13:18 - On route to l'Etale and the col des Aravis
13:23 - Arriving at l'Etale and the Col - Jon reported on the radio that the east face on the other side was rough and that the west side was already working better
11:56 - Starting the transition over the col - it was one of the easiest crossinging ever - smooth and with a slight tail wind
13:36 - Following Jon and Pascal from the col towards the confluence cloud above Les Confins
13:36 - Looking right at the La Clusaz ski area on the Aravis
13:36 - Approaching the Lac de Confins
13:48 - Approaching Mt Lachat de Chatillons after getting high over Les Confins
13:51 - Nearly 2pm and I'm getting hungry after the early start from Marlens
14:09 - I decided to land to eat lunch on Mt Lachat
14:19 - The lift has stopped due to lack of snow so the summit is deserted. It's a popular take-off in the summer but at the moment I have it all to myself.
14:30 - Happy now after eating my sandwiches and ready to fly back to Annecy
14:49 - Climbing out from Mt Lachat - the first time - there was a lot of shadow and I sank back to the ridge
15:29 - After about 30 minutes I finally got a good climb to base and could set off back to the col des Aravis
16:00 - Nice cloud above Orciere (next to Sulens) - this should make it easy to get to Tournette even though it's getting quite late
16:00 - L'Etale to Charvin - what a great view of the south east part of the Chaine des Aravis
16:15 - Approaching the last cloud next to Tournette - it vanished as I arrived but I had just enough height to sneek over the col with about 10m to spare
18:03 - Nearly two hours later after visiting the Col de la Forclaz, Tournette, the Dent de Lanfon and Mt Veyrier I arrive in a gentle thermal at the north end of the Lake
18:03 - Heading for home down the middle of the lake
18:08 - Approaching Menton St Bernard
18:08 - The big hotel by the lake in Menton
18:08 - A last look at Tournette
18:10 - The Chateau at Bluffy
18:11 - Nearly home to the landing field below Planfait
