British Museum Inspiration
Aline Dobbie is attempting to show how the Earl of Elgin had the foresight in centuries past to save the beautiful sculptures on the world famous Parthenon of Athens, which was very nearly destroyed and had many avatars; it is now well conserved, but all the high carvings have finally been removed to safety. The heir to Elgin Lord Charles Bruce is leading the charity committed to restoring the now famous Scottish Cemetery in Kolkata, which was the British capital of India until Delhi became the capital city. Aline's maternal grandparents and forefathers are buried in a family vault in the Scottish Cemetery as late as 1940. The Scots had huge numbers of people who went to live, work, serve, and die in the sub continent of India. This old cemetery if carefully reconfigured could become a lung for Kolkata, such as the beautiful leafy Russell Square in London near the British Museum as illustrated.
