Our countryside, all green, with some windmill on the back, they grow well in our country.
Busy weekend in Normandy, everybody was either harvesting wheat, baling flax or both at the same time. The cool night allows us to harvest very late (some farmers didn't stop for the hole night ! ) and by sunday night, I can say that 85% of the wheat is combined in our area. It's quite uncommon to have to harvest everything at the same time but we didn't want to be harvesting in September at 20% moisture like it could happened in the past. Lots of combine came from the surounding "states" to help farmers or contractors. The result was sometime 2 to 4 combines in the same field, it was hard to keep up with the grain trailers ! I have seen some John Deere STS, and they go very sloooow ! Jason won't be happy but they wre not the best this time, lots of wheat and big straw are not good for rotor combines. The bi rotors were good though, the Claas and New Holland CR handles our conditions better.
Our biggest trailer, can hold 44 bales. Hopefully the last axle can turn and allows to turn shorter. It's very usefull on our narrow road and small yard.
"Epson", our dog ( only in black and white)
The flax layed down on the ground for about a month before we can bale it.
Our farm is on the back, hided by the trees.
Lot of traffic ! We drove almost over 100% of the field : puller, baller, trailer, loader...
baling at night
The field when harvested. It leaves the ground bare but we will be seeding a cover crop this week. Next year will be potatoes.
Artichoke flower
Our garden at my parents place. The tall sunflower is a seed I brought back from Kansas
Sweetcorn, not so good this year !
well stacked !
The neighbours, straight cutting winter canola
The queue at the elevator, all weekend long. By saturday, we were all dumping wheat outside.
Our self propeled baler
Our T660, and a Valmet tractor
The Greenstar terminal, shows that nothing grows under the trees ! We were harvesting at 16% of moisture and the wheat yielded 130bu/ac. The average on the farm this year is 10.6T/ha
Toisondor variety
We had fun with the autosteer, cutting swath in the middle of the field
The combine is 2 years old, she has about 5000acres, wich is quite a lot for us. We share it between 8 farmers, spread in Normandy and the middle of France. We trade it every 2 years.
The tractor I drove, it's 125hp and the trailer can hold 17T of wheat
Woods and plain, it's a good place to hunt !
We left the the straw because we make an exchange with a neighbour : he take the straw and we take the manure back
