Spain
Almeria is a seaside oasis in a desert where spaghetti westerns were filmed. A beautiful old town with an impressive history, it has made great efforts with its principal monument, the Moorish fort or Alcazaba overlooking the harbour.
Malaga is a large working port, yet has a number of picturesque features and a great panoramic view from the fort overlooking the harbour.
Cartagena launched an initiative to mark the new century with extensive excavations and restoration of its Roman heritage, and a beautiful new museum.
Cadiz old town is also fascinating, with a fine cathedral and shady gardens.
