This is the chateau where Chateaubriand grew up. And that's Andy's head.
Ducks in the Jardins du Thabor
The seagull really liked that guy. Cos he had food in his pocket.
View of the town of St Malo from the battlements.
There were a lot of couples out at St Malo.
Piscine de l'eau de mer
Chateaubriand's tomb at St Malo. I was lucky to come on a day when we could walk out to the the little island.

This was a battlesite from the Normandy invasion, where there are still enormous craters and half-destroyed German bunkers. Many of the German soldiers who were killed in the air raid that left those craters are still under the ground, buried where they fell by the mounds of displaced earth or collapsed bunkers.
This was on the battlefield, too.
Look! The trees are on frames!

There were these very fanciful sculptures on poles inside the complex, strange combinations of animals.
This was Andy's favorite statue, but only once he had seen it from this angle.
The bird only had one leg, and a tail instead of a tailfeather, so we figured all it could do to get around was hop. But I guess it didn't matter, since it was just sitting on that pole forever anyway.

There was no sign indicating who he was, though I did my best to get it out of him.
He didn't respond to Andy, either.
Another couple; what a place to study!
On the warf in Caen (only Stephanie was ready for this picture, but you can barely see her!); this place was absolutely nuts after France beat New Zealand in the Rugby world cup, as we witnessed.
Omaha Beach
Omaha Beach. This is another couple. You'll just have to believe me.
This was near Omaha Beach, but up the cliffs and a little ways east.

Luke was feeling a little cold.
Looking at rocks that fell down.
I love these kids with their cameras.
Stephanie was making an intense face.
This Menhir looked like a cubist face.
There were so many bridges in Quimper.
The old bridge in the foreground was no longer open for use. The funny modern bridge can be seen behind.

There are all kinds of apparently useless things like this in these old monkish places.
I don't know what was up there.
I don't know what was up there, either. I liked the floor.
I took a photo of the wall. I don't remember why.
There was Greek on the trip!
