Boys can stretch too.
Coach Russ visits with Grant after a race.
Grant swam 9 events, each day. He made finals in all 9 events. Most of his competitors were from HYCAT.
Grant at end of 100 breast in prelims. Close races.
Coach Russ, seen here, always went out of his way to wave and cheer. He offered candy as bribes for best times, as did the other WV coaches. The photo shows the blinds in the down position on the other side of the pool.
End of finals on 2nd night of WV Swimming's L.C. Championships at Kenyon College. Photo of Grant and Erik. Back to the campground for us.

BKHY - swimming in the WV LC Championships at Kenyon College. The swim cap looks like the OSU football helmet. A swimmer's last name is often on the caps too. Kenyon's swim scoreboard is visible in the distance on the right. It shows the swimmers names, splits, times and places. Flags are on the wall, perhaps of Kenyon swimmers from around the world. The building looks a bit like a new airport with arrival times and international flight info.
Grant Road and Grant -- on our way home. Driving to and from Pittsburgh was easier for us then most of the competitors from WV.
Outside of the new Kenyon Athletic building. We joined with Buckeye and the WV swimmers at the first long course meet at the new building.
New pool on Kenyon's campus is indoor, 50-meter.
Glass around the outside of the building lets in a lot of light. However, inside the windows are shades that can be adjusted with a switch and powered up or down. The building is air conditioned too, with vents at each seat in the spectator area.
Looking inside the pool building with reflections.
Indoor track is in the distance (or left of the building when facing the front door). The swim pool is to the right.
Cleaning the windows must be a chore. The reflection in the windows shows the old pool building. That tank is now empty.

Lane 9 was a warm-down lane used throughout the meet.
The pool is 9 lanes wide -- 25 yards on the short way. The bulkhead moves too. Blocks were at both ends.
Sunday, between prelims and finals, we hit this part of the lake for lots of swimming, boating and water fun.

Grant's height in China. That 1.4 meters tall. When you are taller, you pay the full amount.
Grant at the Carnegie Library of Homestead pool. We had our kids wear body suits for sun protection. But this was indoors. The suits were also very helpful for keeing an eye on our kids, as they stood out so much from the others. None were ever wearing suits like this in the US then.
