Wedding dress street! If you linger too long around the store front, someone will pop out and try to chat you into buying something. Photos must be taken quickly and discreetly.
Alley way.
More snacks. Fried chicken in a bag.
Eating out of a bag proves to be too challenging for Bob.

Kaohsiung's mayor, cartoon-ized and used in many banners and billboards, wearing various outfits and performing various tasks.
Shopping in Carrefour (like a Walmart).
Carrefour shop.
Bad English makes a good dessert sound unappetizing.
This one seems controversial.
Ice cream cone muffins.
Stuffed toys in vending machines are very popular here. Herds of cute things always make for a good picture.

A tired Bob.

Monkey.
Baby monkey.
Up to no good.
A gross misrepresentation of Ronald McDonald. Also seemingly obscene. I wonder if anyone else notices.
Mangy dogs are everywhere. They are generally inactive and run away when approached.
Someone got lazy when they started painting this house.
Products seem to need faces to be sold.

Lactic acid drink... I believe it is yogurt. The funny rainbow-headed guy is the 7-Eleven mascot. 7-Eleven's are everywhere.
Back in Kaohsiung after five days of touring Taiwan. I now dress like a local.
Shopping in what I call a “stuff store” - seven floors of household goodies, stationary, jewellery, etc.
A globe puzzle. Probably a pain in the ass to build. Maybe that's why it's half done.
An encouraging way to save money.
Waiting for the MRT train.
Strolling around town.
Onion pancake, one of my favourite street snacks.
We hop on a ferry and head for the nearby island. On the way, Bob points out a ship building facility. Neat.
We take the city-run ferry that is part of the transit system. There are, however, cheaper and sketchier options, like this one.
On the island, we snack on barbequed squid. Quite good.
The head is the best part!
Almost done my skewer.
Bob on his second.

Chomping down.
Back to the MRT station.
Night market time!
“Coffin bread” - thick slice of fried bread, hollowed and filled with sauce and chicken.
Eat your greens, honey.
I rather enjoy them.
Crayfish. This is a rather cruel vendor. While still alive and kicking, the crayfish are skewered and grilled. Thank goodness they can't scream.
Various duck parts.
Drink in a bag. The girl serving us makes a big show of preparing it, pouring and mixing like a professional bartender. Unfortunately, I'm not able to catch it with the camera.
Probably my favourite street snack. Candied yams.
World Games mascots happily paddling in a dragon boat.
Everyone has a scooter, but the real men have motorbikes.
This is a perplexing sight - some puppies perched on a rock. There was a guy sitting around on the other side of the sidewalk, the owner we presume. For some reason, none of the puppies attempt to run away or even venture off the rock. They seem to be well trained. We are not sure what the purpose of this display was. Perhaps he is trying to sell them? The guy didn't seem to mind people petting the puppies and taking pictures.
More delicious meat pies.
Yum yum yum!
Stuffing face with noodles.
Noodle bowl.
Beef wrapped in onion pancake.
Some ladies in suits getting on a scooter while holding a cake box.

Frequently, we run into these burning cans used to make offerings to the dead. People would lay out food and toss special papers into the cans.
Ice cream.
The popular flower donut and Mr. Donut lion.
Also, his friend the French Cruller sheep.
Teenagers like to hang out in the MRT stations and practice their dance routines. The open spaces and mirrored walls act as a makeshift dance studio.
Bob gets a haircut. I wait and spot a wedding dress store across the street.
Discreetly taking photos of the funky stylists working on other customers while Bob gets a haircut.
Still waiting.
The view outside the hair salon.
Finally done.
Wonderful! You no longer look like a mop.

And it begins!

Bob sets up his tripod on the platform of a MRT station. The security guard eyes us and then approaches to tell him not to “leave it behind.” Here, he seems to be radio-ing us in to his buddies.
