Great group ready for a hike on a beautiful day. Temperature was just right for a hike.
The grave is along side the trail, not far from where we parked at the current end of the Alford Smith Road
South Fork of the Cumberland River far below and away from where we were.
Angle Falls Overlook - South Fork of the Cumberland River in the background.
Beautiful gorge
Angel Falls
Great trail - level most of the way with gentle gains and losses
How did they get up there?
Through a hole in the top of the cave
Not many flowers this time of year
Ground pine
Several hikers had not seen the Twin Arches so after returning from the main hike we added this short hike
One of several steep stairs on this short hike
The North arch is the smaller of the two but still impressive
The South arch
If you keep going you go through a 'fat man' squeeze
Light at the end of the 'fat man' squeeze
They made it through the narrow passage
Looking up directly under the South arch
Headed up to walk across the top of the arches
View from on top of the South arch
On top of the South arch - no stairs to get here
Another set of steep stairs after the arches, on the way back
View from the top of the stairs in the preceding picture
We had enough time after the Twin Arches hike to visit the near-by Hazard Cave in Pickett State Park
Folks are not clear but you get a feel for the size of the cave
