"I'm not sure I would say 'best' on all counts. His later (even 1979's-80's) clocks are attractive and reliable too - amongst the best for actual play. But, I do find these lovely to look at (and listen to: a slow, deep tick) ; the higher top-line also makes it slightly less distance to 'hit the button' after a move."

"Lovely clock! Similar in design to my CH228 from 1938 - although mine isn't signed on the dials and has a 'fixed' back. The guarantee periods are interesting - 2 years, here, 18mths on mine and then at some point it dropped to 12mths. Seems odd given the reliability of these clocks - would he have had enough returns in the latter part of each period to require it? Or could it have been that the back-up warranty by the clockmaker was reduced?"
