Ecuador, Otavalo, Quito
We travelled to Quito and then straight to Otavalo, on the bus a little kid crawled under my seat and pinched the charger and cable for our camera. We still had a good time in Otavalo, went to the markets and had a walk around a crater. 5 hours walk from 3000meters to 3500, down to 3000, up again etc...The markets are well known, local indians sell their wares there.
Alpaca blankets and pullovers, tableclothes, jewelery made out of palm seeds (tagua), Panama hats, etc...it is fun to shop and bargain and it's cheap. Quito is a busy, crowded city. The old city is quite beautiful, but the numerous busses belch so much smoke that any time spend in the streets is a health hazard. There are churches galore, they are in every streets and many are full of gold. The main museum is very interesting, as it tells the story of the first indios, the cagnaris and then the incas.
