Angel Island

Angel Island is an island in San Francisco Bay that offers spectacular views of the San Francisco skyline, the Marin County Headlands and Mount Tamalpais. It is a California state park, Angel Island State Park. The highest point on the island, almost exactly at its center, is Mount Livermore at 788 ft. Until about ten thousand years ago, Angel Island was connected to the mainland; it was cut off by the rise in sea levels due to the end of the ice age.

Yosemite Trip

Yosemite National Park is a national park located largely in Mariposa and Tuolumne Counties, California, United States. The park covers an area of 761,266 acres or 1,189 square miles and reaches across the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountain chain. Yosemite is visited by over 3.5 million people each year, with most visitors only seeing the seven square miles of Yosemite Valley. Designated a World Heritage Site in 1984, Yosemite is internationally recognized for its spectacular granite cliffs, waterfalls, clear streams, Giant Sequoia groves, and biological diversity. About 89% of the park is designated wilderness.

California Cavern

California Cavern was the very first cave in the state to be opened to the public for guided tours in 1850. In the early days, the cave was known as "Mammoth Cave." We explored approximately 80% of the cavern system from the east entrance to the western most exit. The circuit is about a mile long! The first part of the trip consists of walking, crawling and squeezing through the historic "Mammoth Cave" area. Then we passed through the "Middle Earth" area which was discovered in 1980. There is mostly walking through knee deep, sticky cave clay. Then we explored the horizontal fissures in the Cave of the Quills and a quick 70-foot rafting trip across Tom's Lake.

Moaning Cavern

Moaning Cavern holds the largest vertical chamber in a public cavern that you can see in California. In fact, it's so big, it could hold the entire Statue of Liberty! We descended by rope 165 feet into the huge main chamber. Then an exploration through deep chambers and passages. Most areas are undeveloped, so there are no lights, stairs, or walkways. Instead we explored by climbing and belly crawling with lighted helmets to show the way through the caves.
