We parked near Uzzicar Farm in the icy Newlands Valley.
A bridleway lead us to the foot of the North West Ridge of Barrow
The path up the ridge lead from Braithwaite to the summit and was well trodden and very icy - we all needed to wear either climbing crampons or walking spikes on our boots
Potentailly lethal without the right equipment!
I was accompanied today by Roger Hiley and David Hall - and the dogs, of course.
The seated figures are at the summit of Barrow. In the background is Causey pike
Roger and his dogs take in the view
A party had used their ice axes to cut snow blocks to build a wind break
Descending to Barrow Door
A groups sets off up our next objective - Stile End.
Roger and David on Stile End summit
Various walkers climbing and descending Outerside
dirty weather coming in from the North West
starting the ascent of Outerside
Looking back to Barrow and the Vale of Keswick
On the summit of Outerside - more snow wall building going on!
Great Dodd and Calfhow Pike higlighted by a rare shaft of sunlight
Starting our descent from High Moss
looking back up Stonycroft Gill
Last time I was here was in brilliant sunshine last summer - very different conditions today. Still, the cars are only a short distance away. A surprisingly good walk on a day when the conditions threatened to turn worse than they did.
