dirt road leading up to camp eagle
more dirt road with some spectacular views of the hill country, this spot is about 3-4 miles from the camp.
it was a cloudy, rainy and cold day....brrr.
my 2WD car had some fun driving through this mix of mud and water!
Neuces river crossing on the road, more fun for my car!
view from the coffee shop
huge suspension bridge near the entrance, view from the coffee shop.
Joe, John and I started out charting the Duck trail along the river.
a disk golf cage across the river!
river crossing on stones, we were trying to find a trail that went across the river and up a hill.
one of the dams
we could not find the trail across the river, so Joe does some scouting on his own up the jeep road.
view of the river from behind the last dam.
the duck trail.
hoops laid across for swinging above the river
that's the neuces lodge up there that we stayed in.
we then hiked along this slick rock on the edge of the river, this is probably going to be part of the race course!
that's the trail...
a water slide in the middle of the river. too cold to get in.
kayak landing spot.
that's some rappel!
it was a shaky but safe bridge! also probably part of the race course!
believe it or not, that's under the water! this shot was taken about 20' above water, the water was so clear!
still water reflections.
creek bed where many trails split off.
john with his GPS and joe with his measuring wheel.
view from the overlook! (armadillo and longhorn trails meet here)
that's the overlook, we sat here for a few minutes to eat and enjoy the view.
christmas decorations inside the coffee shop
the rather comfortable coffee shop at camp eagle!
early morning dew that we saw through the day.
some good climbs on the jeep roads.
the wheel kept picking up mud that joe had to clean out every so often!
that windmill pumped all that water!
more of the gossamer dew! (gotta find out what it is)
that's the new trail we bushwhacked along the fence!
that's a nasty climb if included in the race.
we found a lot of crosses everywhere.
intersection of boot and moon trails!
cedar trees we were bushwhacking through in our quest to discover paths for new trails! fun though it was, didn't help with my allergies!
climbing over rocks and bending under low branches we were through this failed quest to find the trail.
more of the "new trail"
that's a fun section if going downhill!
a nice cozy lodge...
