Kitchen Renovation

We've started the Next Big Project--a complete rennovation of the kitchen. Steve is building the cabinets out of mahagony, the floor will be a light-colored tile, and the countertops will be a dark granite. Lots to do! But the job is now underway.

Mauna Loa Observatory Road August 2010

On our way home, driving over Saddle Road, we took a side trip and headed up the Mauna Loa Observatory Road. The observatory is just above 11,000 feet in altitude and we turned around just before that so were probably up around 10,000 feet. Interesting lava up there and incredible views of both Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea--it was a beautiful day!

Greg's Visit Oct 09

Greg came to visit in October. He and Steve played *a lot* of golf--no pictures of that! And I put him to work for my school, picking pumpkins and working at the Oktoberfest fundraiser. We had some goof-off time, too. :-) Great visit, Greg!

Underwater Pix

When Greg was visiting recently, we went snorkeling down in Kona. I spotted a camera lying on the ocean floor and swam down to retrieve it. It was a waterproof Olympus digital camera. I took a few pictures (I couldn't help it! It was beautiful!) before coming out of the water. We looked at the pictures on the camera, hoping to spot the owner. The menu was all in Japanese and there were pictures of a Japanese woman, but we couldn't see them on the beach. We reported it to the lifeguard, in case they showed up and Steve and I went back out snorkeling while Greg checked the parking lot for their rental car. When we came back out of the water, there they were! I'm so glad we were able to get them their camera back...with all their great Hawaii vacation memories on it! Katsuhiko was kind enough to email me the pictures I took with his camera when he returned to Tokyo. So, here they are! Enjoy!

Kitchen Update

While we need to redo the entire kitchen, that is years away so we decided to just brighten things up by painting the cabinets, raising them up to a standard height, adding hardware, and replacing the undercounter lighting. The bottom cabinets are next!

Christmas 2007

Greg, Kathy, Garret, Kaitlin, and Stuart all came out for a visit for three days over Christmas. While it was a quick trip, it was packed with golf, hiking, beach trips, snorkeling, eating, drinking, playing games, and Firefly. Good times!
