Mer de Glace and the three Monts

After one week good acclimatization in Switzerland (two peaks over 4000, one night at 3300) we tried again the traversing of the 3 Monts (du Tacul, Maudit, Blanc). In 2007 the 50 cm snow stole our dream. Now we got everything frozen, wind blew like a mad, but we did it. The descent over Gouter was long and tiring, some may enjoy that, me not, neither my knees. So, is it simple to climb Mont Blanc? The answer is: Jain (think in German :-) In the album I used few of the photos of 2007 and 2-3 from the web, because I was too frozen to take my gloves for some moments in the morning. Sorry, I lost my resistance since I live near the beach :-)

Visiting Gornergrat and climbing the Nadelhorn

"Broken" after our first adventure on the Weissmies we took a day off in Zermatt and went with the Zahnradbahn to the Gornergrat. Next day we climbed to Mischabelhütte, almost alone over night (incertitude on weather forecast), then the Nadelhorn ascent in the following morning. The last ridge was narrow and the peak was sharp like a needle (what actually means Nadel in German.

Panoramas

Since 2004 I started to make panoramas mainly in the mountains. I try to keep a ratio of 3 to 1, only in exceptional cases larger. The text has the following rule: Date - the place where the photo is taken - (eventually the direction: N-North, etc.) - what mountains do we see. Note that I insert the newer panoramas first. Ask me to send you the full size. Only then the quality is good enough to try a fit to windows height. --- Panoramele mele montane din 2004 si pânã în prezent. Inserez fiecare nouã excursie la începutul albumului. Formatul e 3 la 1, iar titlul scris pe pozã are urmãtoarea formã: Data - Locul de unde este luatã poza - eventual directia geograficã (N-nord, etc.) - Ce se vede în pozã. Vi le trimit în mãrime naturalã dacã doriti sã le vedeti calumea.

Traversing the Weissmies in the Swiss Alps

From Saas Grund camping to Saas Almagell village, then upwards to the Almagellerhütte (stay over night). Continue to the Zwischenbergpass and then over the south ridge to the top of Weissmies, 4023 m. Descent on the north face over the glacier and its seracs. Return from 3000 m with the new cable car from Hochsaas.

From Hinku to Khumbu Valley towards Everest

This album is the continuation of the Mera Peak ascent (you may watch that album from my public gallery). We had to go over an unexpectedly high and steep pas (Zatrwa La, 4500 m), then down to Lukla (2800 m), up with the mainstream towards Namche Bazar (3400 m) till Pangboche (4000 m) and above it in the morning (5000 m). Then back to Lukla to catch one of the last flights back to Kathmandu (next weeks it was a disaster because of the bad weather). From the flat low Nepal to Mera Peak in 17 days

Starting from the small airport Biratnagar, border with India, 100 m altitude, and climbing all Himalayas vegetation levels in 17 days. The summit reached on rather adverse conditions (after two days moderate snow fall) but with a rewarding perspective towards 5 of the 6 highest mountains of the planet, from left to right: Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Kangchenjunga. The journey continued with parts of Everest trek on Khumbu valley, subject to a separate album. You may be interested in following the locations on the map. Via Ferrata Che Guevara on Monte Casale

We are not Ferrata-freaks, but we made the perfect choice for a cool autumn day when the snow already covered the Dolomites (where we came from). Difficulty on Ferrata scale is medium, but is long. Do 1400 meter up and down only if you have some training! --- Zgribuliti de frigul din Dolomiti ne-am delectat cu aceastã feratã mai degrabã usoarã, dar lungã. Cortina d'Ampezzo's Wonderland

Real snow falling the night before, after a rainy day in Cortina. First winter day is always to remember. We changed our plans (Punta Pennia) to a walk towards Rif. Giussani. Monte Rosa

5 days tour (return to the car parking) spending nights in refugees, lots of 4000-ers, average difficult mountaineering, best views of the Alps possibly. A must for any "addicted." The weather is crucial, it can turn it in a quite dangerous scenario --- Excursie de 5 zile cu revenire la masinã, un numãr impresionant de patrumiari, prevelisti iesite din comun. De recomandat alpinistilor, chiar si turistilor foarte bine echipati (deja se pot numi alpinisti :-) Nu vã duceti, sau întrerupeti pe vreme rea, cu tot riscul unei întoarceri complicate la masinã.

Allalinhorn, Weissmies, Dom

Tent Base Camp in Saas-Grund. Our first three 4000-ers. Allalinhorn from Brittania hut, Weissmiess, then last day before the floods of Switzerland, the Dom. Lucky is the only word I can imagine --- Cu baza în campingul din Saas-Grund, primii nostri trei 4000-ari. Ultimul, Dom, pe vreme ce se deteriora rapid. Andorra

Only this year my wife and me spent a ski vacation without friends, and in a 4 stars hotel. It was ok, lovely fresh snow, but we missed the company, so next years we went back to pensions, cabanas, and "tourenski" --- Familie cuminte, hotel 4 stele, zãpadã bunã, pârtii goale. Ce sã ne dorim pentru viitor? Mai mult fun cu prieteni, pensiuni simple, cabane, schi de turã, nu ne-am bosorogit încã :-)
