Jñāna-Vigraham – A Distinctive Statue of Sree Narayana Guru
After almost a century of carving, chiselling and casting tens of thousands of statues of Sree Narayana Guru that adorn the length and breadth of Kerala and other locations worldwide, a conceptually different statue has now been sculptured. While most traditional Guru statues conform to lifelike realism alone, for the first time a radical step has been taken to design and sculpt a Guru statue that combines likeness, symbolism, reverence and aesthetics.
On the lines of Buddhist sculpturing tradition, the Jñāna-Vigraham (meaning ‘embodiment of knowledge’) was conceived and commissioned by Sujit Sivanand for his private collection and as a trendsetter for the future. The statue is sculptured in whitewood by a team led by Mani Mesthiri of Trivandrum.
