South Korea 2009
On October 16, 2009 the NYPD Soccer Traveled to Seoul, South Korea on a 14 hour direct flight. One day later, the team played the Seoul Korean National Police, falling 5-2. After two days rest, they recovered vs the Korean Police Univ team, winning 4-1. Following the matches, the boys visited many sights in Seoul, including the King's Palaces, the DMZ (North Korean border), and enjoyed the local culture, shopping and foods. The team then traveled to a suburb of Seoul, where they visited their most important part of the itinerary, an orphanage. In anticipation, the team had prepared 100 NYPD Soccer bags full of assorted gifts, including soccer balls, NYPD coloring books, crayons, DEA stickers, hats, and patches for the children. During the meet and greet with the children, the team practiced their Korean language skills, as the kids surprised all with their attempt at English. The children, and adults alike, were so gracious over the team's visit to their beautiful country.
