This month's theme was hobbies.
Applique made with wool felt and the Sizzix die cut machine...add a few beads or buttons, very easy.
Beaded snowflake, embroidery stitches in the *snow* create great texture.
hand embroidered with buttons!
Rather than stitch down my felt trees, I attached them with small beads.
For our family postcard exchange. The theme for August 2008 was Heat.
April 2008 Not Spring yet but soon
A recent visit to the North Shore of Lake Superior made me want to attempt to capture the Birch Trees. The leaves are French Knots (this one looked much better in my *mind*). It's in a clear envelope that I use to mail them. I know lots of people mail them without an envelope but I'm afraid they'll get trashed! This one also has a zigzag edge
January 6, 2008 Celebrated the new year with a champagne toast after dinner out with another couple.
December 26, 2007 Inspired by the snow we've been having all week (including Christmas Day!)
My Dad passed away almost 19 years ago but this is one time of year I think of him a lot. I'm sending this one to Mom and will create another one for my Journal Project. I wanted the photo to look old but the only fabric sheets I had were a bright white. I got the effect I wanted by reversing the photo, printing onto a photo transfer sheet, and ironing it onto a blotchy beige fabric.
October 27, 2007 Minneapolis in Autumn, a walk along the Mississippi River.
January 9, 2008 Inspiration - my current piecing project based on Sandy Bonsib's quilt and the postcard from the book Postcard Quilts by Caroline Reardon both influenced this latest journal postcard.
A first attempt at Ribbon Embroidery

October 31, 2007 Chesty's breathing episodes worsen so we spent a couple days having him checked out at the University Vet Hospital.
November 9, 2007 Memories of a trip last month to the North Shore of Lake Superior. The colors of fall were somewhat disappointing but I loved the birch trees.
November 19, 2007 Traveling again this time to Lake Oconee, The Ritz Carlton Lodge. A visit to see Adam (and Chris & Becky)
This one hasn't had the edges finished yet but I had a lot of fun beading it.
January 13, 2008 Anticipating a trip to Deb's in Florida at the end of the month.
November 29, 2007 Anticipating our Family Reunion, this card depicts the house I grew up in and where Mom still lives.
January 26, 2008 Florida
For our family postcard exchange. Theme was work and HeartStrings is my work

October 24, 2007 Freeform pieced letters, my first attempt. Inspired by Tonya. See her tutorials http://quiltville.com/tonya/tonyabio.shtml
February 8, 2008 Valentine card for Keith
Leaves are cut out and appliqued by hand using the blanket stitch, Fall is embroidered - the first *L* is VERY close to that bound edge.
My first card, I used a print and embroidered the outlines of the houses. Bound edge.
A second attempt at the Birch trees, these have already lost their leaves. You can see a photograph of the trees here - http://tinyurl.com/3c3zve - although I wasn't trying to recreated it exactly.
