Post Visit Week - Bonjour Centrale

After 6 weeks of intensive training, we got to take a break from the craziness of stage to go and visit our posts for a week and get a preview for what life in village/town will be like. My post, Sotouboua, is a replacement post so I got to hang out with Joelle, the girl I'm replacing. The week was great and it ended with an awesome end of week party in the regional capital with the rest of the volunteers in the region...and some sneakaways from Kara and Savannes :)

Field Trip - Kara or Am I Really In The Peace Corps?

Since many of my CHAP stage-mates will be working with an HIV/AIDS association in their towns, half of us were sent up to Kara to work with a well established American funded organization for a whole week. We were put up in a "nice" hotel (nice compared to the rest of Togo) that really made us question whether we were really in the Peace Corps lol. It was nice to get away from the intensity of training at site and relax with "fast" wifi, a swimming pool and the closest approximation to American food...it was a great trip and I look forward to bring back a lot of things from the trip to my post

PC Training Retreat

So to ease our transition to life in Togo, PC arranged for our training group to stay in Lome for the first few days. We hung out with current PCVs, partied with them, met the US Ambassador to Togo, ate amazing food, oh yea and learned a little about life in togo (laundry, bucket baths & pooping in a hole). Thanks to stolen wifi on top of our hostel, I am able to post these pictures...

Peace Corps Orientation

PC Orientation started on June 4th. Orientation was basically two incredible days of meeting everyone in my group and learning loads of information that helped calm a lot of the group's anxieties. Now we are officially Peace Corps Trainees (PCTs). After an overnight flight to Paris, we will head to Togo and arrive on African soil on June 7th.
