"If the wind had not changed on Black Saturday – the school and township would have gone up. When the wind changed, it destroyed other townships just like ours. Nearly 200 people died.
Good thing is we are all much better prepared. However, it’s probably inevitable that it will happen one day!
With trees chopped down, the front of our school looked like a desert, even the wooden seats had to be taken out. The community pitched in to make the geeko statue as a seat-substitute!

"Due to the devastating bushfires 2 years ago, all schools in fire-prone areas had to remove trees or overhanging vegetation near school buildings.
Warrandyte is considered one of the most dangerous urban bushfire areas in the world (along with parts of California)
Luckily we haven’t experienced a major fire since the 1960’s (lots of little fires are bad enough though!)
