SAV - Slovak Academe Vied (Slovak Academy of Sciences) - I've never worked in a lab with an electric sign.
Sunrise from my apartment
A view of the communist soldiers memorial. The memorial was built by Russia to remember soldiers who died to liberate Slovakia from the Nazis. This memorial is visible from everywhere in Bratislava.
A view of my building. My room on the third floor (the second row of windows). My window is the second one from the right (one window is open).
This building recieved new windows about two months before I arrived, so it actually looks quite nice
My research group at dinner. From left to right, Micheal, Vladmir, Olga, Stano, and the birthday girl Elena.
The cafeteria or mensa where I eat lunch every day. In this picture, we visit for coffee break, the labs afternoon ritual of tea/coffee and cake from the deli.
The outdoor patio, I only ate out here once because its usually full of people
Looking at the only landscaped part of the campus, the goldfish pond. Sometimes after lunch, the group would walk around and talk about research (or life in general).
The goldfish pond
Stefan, my office mate, Stefan. He's actually quite a bit older, his youngest son is as old as me. But he acts young, he went rollerblading last weekend with his wife.
Elena and her fiance Stano in the lab
Vladmir, one of my hosts, yes, his hair normally looks like that
Olga, my other host, her hair isn't like Vladmir's.
Sometimes we frequent cafe's at night. This one really piqued my interest.
Elena points out the cafe motto.
Elena and Stano enjoy our new favorite beer, Saris (pronounced Sharish). Its kinda like Guinness, but sweeter and more licquorice like.
