In a Fiat Taxi in Bombay
In an Ambassador cab in Udaipur
Udaipur airport
Swanky new Udaipur airport, inaugurated just before aviation minister Praful Patel's daughter's wedding! Capsule elevators, aerobridges and all. A sign of a country reconstructing, in select pockets.
Outside the Shrinathji temple at Nathdwara, 52 km from Udaipur. I expected it to be grander.
Outside the temple.
And the lanes back from the temple. Nice long sunny walk and comparatively not too many beggars and sellers.
Rana Pratap memorial at Haldighati, on the way back, complete with automata that move to describe various valorous events in his life, him stabbing a tiger, people turning their heads et al. Its is funny how we are trained to read before we look at the image. the text has nothing to do with what is happening up there.
Outside Rana Pratap memorial
Stuck in traffic in a village. Sony Digicam image.
Same picture on Nikon FM10, 50mm, Fujicolor 400.
City Palace, Udaipur. Grand and beautiful! Foreigners have no choice but to freak out in Rajasthan. Interestingly, I started traveling in the touristy parts of the state only recently. So for me it is like reinventing the much oiled wheel.
Lots of climbing up and down inside. Ma and pa on what must be the equivalent of eighth story of a city building. Notice the mirror work on the column.
Mum and me.
Hamara Bajaj! We find papa's old friends, Bajaj sodium vapor light fixtures up there.
Papa and Chetak, Rana Pratap horse. I don't know what the elephant trunk on the horse is about.
Sheesh mahal! Look in the centre.
Of course, they were shooting for a film called 'The Cheetah Girls' on the 4th floor.
Sony digicam picture.
Nikon FM 10, 50mm, Fujicolor 400.
Back to Sony. Actually not the fault of the digicam, its just a consumer cam competing with a film cam's images.
Restored glass and inlay work.
Detail of jharokha.
One of the many durbars.
Big trees up there on the 3rd floor courtyard.
Outside State Bank of India. Bags full of money! The thought icks me out, give me a cheque, or transfer into my account any day.
At our RTDC hotel.
Fateh Sagar Lake. Nehru Garden in the centre, a floating inflated tortoise and (offscreen) a solar observatory in the middle of the lake.
Take a boat to the garden.
Climb steps.
Sit in the pavilion.
Sit in the park.
Pani puri and kulfi at a famous 'circle' in the city later.
Adjoining table.
Shrinathji paintings.
Solid gold inlay work. Rather grand and pretty. Need a room to match.
Mom in elevator.
Dad in elevator.
Spot dad.
Spot mom.
Journey home.
Back home.
Taxiing in as another plane takes off.
