Yes, it looks black (both with and without a flash used), but i can assure you, it is decidedly dark navy blue, not black.

This shows a good view of the colour variations.

End of painting day 1 as the sun sets: body colour complete, waiting on trim to start.
General idea of the house colour scheme we are going with. Note that obtaining an accurate representation of the white/red/grey-sage colouring was next to impossible.
Old house lights. Colonial style lanterns.
New house lights. 5 in total: 1 on the side, 4 at the front. More whimsical; matches our personal style.
moisture and carpenter ants got the better of this small section.
Before the repairs
LP siding removed, replaced with HardiPlank
New HardiPlank. You can barely tell it isn't painted yet.
Repairs completed... deck had to be pulled away to do it all.
Properly flashed and sealed, the way it should have been done the first time!
some roofing repairs also going on
Second story windows covered in plastic in prep for roofing treatment to kill all the fungus.
Yes, it was a true construction zone!
As the property values decline... then hopefully spike after all the work is done :)
The deck is put back together
Siding is completed, deck is back, and the house is on a stable base again.
You can see the marriage of the HardiPlank with the original Cedar siding.... nice fit!

not pretty, but it works.
Replacing this 'original' hallway chandelier....
What a find! A 3-arm reproduction gaslamp chandelier with 3 hexagonal globes (two being shipped from the warehouse) for only $170 total. I couldn't find an original gas fixture and do the conversion to electric myself for even twice that price.
... with this new reproduction gas-lamp chandelier.
Installed and functional! Using 40watt Spun Glow bulbs.
Craft room, primed and ready for a transformation into a Gothic paradise.

Mitered cornices help finish off the tin ceiling.
Pasadena Rose wall sconces from Meyda Tiffany
This first section installation took the better part of two days and still isn't complete. Hit my thumb over 150 times trying to do this the 'right way' with a hammer and nails...
Finally gave in and bought a cordless nailer. Made installation a breeze in comparison!
The remaining 3 sections (as divided by the white beams) went up in less than an hour with the nailer.
...and painted.
Primed.
