Landford, Wiltshire
My earliest known Tucker ancestors came from Landford, Wiltshire, on the edge of the New Forest. The village is now bisected by the A36 and is somewhat spoiled. My ancestors who lived in Hamptworth would have gone to school here, although I suspect none of them did because it was before compulsory schooling commenced. However, a number of Tucker ancestors and their siblings were baptised at St Andrews, Landford, but at the earlier church on the site. Some of the gravestones still exist, but are hard to read. John Tucker (1735-1812)'s grave can just be made out. My ancestors William and Mary Tucker (1730s-1784, and 1729-1782) were buried at Landford but I could not find the grave.
