Perley Rock
Preview: A short challenging run to the base of Perley Rock. From here soak in the views of the Illecillewaet Glacier and Glacier Crest to the left (south), Mount Abbott (2,465 m) to the right (west), and the Hermit Range on the north side of the TransCanada Highway. Lookout Mountain (2,508 m) is also in clear view looming to the right (west) above the glacier. You’ll pass some gorgeous cliffs as well as some large, dead, gnarled trees that could have easily been plucked from the set of Alice in Wonderland. From here the trail becomes more rocky as you climb a few switchbacks before coming back out alongside the charcoal-gray rockfall. If you look back down the valley you can see the beginnings of an alluvial fan forming as the streams deposit their glacial silt on their travels. You’ll quickly gain views of the top of the Asulkan Glacier and Leda Peak (2,701 m) to the south.
