NYC Riverside Theatre Iran Festival

NYC's Riverside Theatre presents: Iranian Cultural Village, June 12, 2010, 2-9 PM. Part of Riverside Theatre's 50th Anniversary Family Arts Festival celebrations, this is a day of cultural activities, performances, and food, celebrating the rich contemporary and traditional arts and culture of Iran. Festival curated by Niloufar Talebi. ICARUS/RISE Gala

ICARUS/RISE, a dramatic presentation of new Iranian poetry, created by Niloufar Talebi with original score by Bobak Salehi and choreography and video by former SF and LINES Ballet artist Alex Ketley closed on November 17th and was followed by a gala evening. The making of ICARUS/RISE

Conceived of and created by Niloufar Talebi, ICARUS/RISE was in development for several years. The bilingual (English and Persian) text was adapted from the poetry of 8 Iranian poets. Bobak Salehi composed original score for the theatrical piece. Choreographer and video artist Alex Ketley worked closely with Niloufar on staging the show and dramaturg Zack Rogow helped shape the script. Here are photos of the initial rehearsals, promo pics, staging rehearsals, and the mounting of ICARUS/RISE at Theater Artaud, where it premiered in November 2007.

2007 Iranian Literary Arts Festival

The Translation Project presented the "Iranian Literary Arts Festival" in partnership with Beyond Persia from November 13-17, 2007. Midnight Approaches screening

A wonderful evening of screening Midnight Approaches, our DVD of short films based on new Iranian poetry with the public, art auction, food and more at the Shelton Theater in San Francisco. Honorary hosts were writer Shahrnush Parsipur, SF SYmphony Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas, actor Behrouz Vossoughi, SF Poet Laureate Jack Hirschman and Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi.
