Sand Ship!!!
The new "Dune" looking north at the end of Hollywood Street.
The dune rises above the boardwalk. People complain about the view..... but do they understand dunes? Do they realize the the town was on the verge extreme flood damage?
Sand Ship is connected to the sand pumping coupler on the right. High Tech!!
The north end of the Bethany Beach boardwalk. The men are preparing to "build" a dune.
Another picture of a sand ship/barge pumping its sand. There are perhaps 2 or 3 sand ships taking turns delivering offshore sand.
You can see another Sand ship on the right in the background dredging sand offshore. It's a couple miles out there; the clear day and the super zoom on the camera makes it seem alot closer.
Slurried sand being pumped out to "build a beach"
The dune is level and built to specs. It's apparent that these guys know what they are doing.
A Sand Ship is connected to the coupler. The sand is pumped to the beach through the pipe in the front of the picture and then on down the beach to either the dune or beach building outlets.
Looking west from the south end the of town/boardwalk.
Looking southwest towards Sea Colony. The beach below has not been "Duned" and replenished.
Looking north at Bethany Beach. You can see the sand pumping delivery pipes. The "Y" junction splits; one appears to be for "Dune" building and the other for "Beach" building"
Looking northwest. Note the orange barrier marking the beach access and to keep people from walking all over the dune.
Nice shot of Mango Mikes and the main drag of Bethany Beach. If you look close you might be able to see the Totem Pole. :)
Keep off the pipe!!!
A good shot of the Bethany Beach Patrol Headquarters and a site where wonderful entertainment performs all summer long.
The "ole" Blue Surf Motel on the Bethany Beach boardwalk.
Looking down and north at Hollywood Street. You can see how massive the dune is.
Looking down and north at the main drag into Bethany beach. You can check out all our favorite restaurants, stores, and shops.
Looking out Rt 26 west; a sad time when we have to head home in that direction. :) You can see the famous Bethany Beach Totem pole at the intersection
Looking southwest towards Fenwick Island
Another southwest view
Looking south. The Sea Colony Towers!
Looking south again. See the Bulldozer tracks!!! A good sign of things to come.
A nice shot looking north. This photo really shows how large the beach has become and how precise the dune has been engineered.
Looking west again. Look at the upper right for the recreation area; volleyball, basketball, and the playground. Do you remember the Easter Egg hunts?
Looking west down Hollywood Street. 123 Hollywood (our house) the view is blocked, but you can see the large evergreen out front. Get those pruning shears!! :)
Up high and looking northwest at the 'new" Bethany Beach"
Looking west. Another nice shot of downtown Bethany Beach.
The sand pumping pipe!
High up and facing north. Look at that surf shaping the new beach front. Cowabunga! Surfs up!
An access path over the dune. The dune will be planted with beach grass, etc. to help keep the sand in place.
Mango Mikes. I see Dickey's ice-cream. What else can you see?
Up Close. The main drag of Bethany beach looking West. Special Note: DB Fries center, left side. :)
Looking West again. The soon to be gone.... The good "ole" Blue Surf Motel. Host of the great Bethany Beach Web Cam. :)
Up close looking West on Hollywood Street. The Bethany Arms Hotel on the right. :)
Looking East on Holly wood Street. Hey, I didn't know there was a pool over there... :)
Again due East on Hollywood Street. Hopefully they will make it a straight shot out from the boardwalk and fix that staircase. :)
