Cairns and the GBR
This was our last weekend of the entire trip. A large group of us, about 15 total, booked a snorkling trip with Cairns Dive Center. We flew from Brisbane to Cairns on Thursday and stayed in a hostel called Shenanigans. In the morning we got on a small boat that took us on a bumpy 2.5 hour ride out to our live aboard boat on the reef.
Once we got on the live aboard boat, we snorkeled and did introductory dives with dive masters (mine was named Blake). Ellie, Alex, and I did a night dive on our second night and got to see sharks!
The best memory of the whole boat ride was on the last morning when Ellie and I got up for the 6AM snorkel. We swam out looking for the reef and found sea turtles. We were told that they liked to have their shells rubbed and with a little coaxing i got one to let me rub him for 10 minutes! He was like a cat, he kept turning to get me to rub a different spot on his shell! There were fish and coral everywhere as the sun was just coming up over the ocean.
